Book Description

1 July 2010
Major life transitions such as leaving the protected environment of school or starting a new career can be daunting. It is scary to face a wall of choices, knowing that no one is going to tell us whether or not we are making the right decision. There is no clearly delineated path or recipe for success. Even figuring out how and where to start can be a challenge. That is, until now. As executive director of the Stanford Technology Ventures Program, Tina Seelig guides her students as they make the difficult transition from the academic environment to the professional world, providing tangible skills and insights that will last a lifetime. Seelig is an entrepreneur, neuroscientist, and popular teacher, and in "What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20" she shares with us what she offers her students - provocative stories, inspiring advice, and a big dose of humility and humour. These pages are filled with fascinating examples, from the classroom to the boardroom, of individuals defying expectations, challenging assumptions, and achieving amazing success. Seelig throws out the old rules and provides a new model for reaching our highest potential. We discover how to have a healthy disregard for the impossible, how to recover from failure, and how most problems are remarkable opportunities in disguise. "What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20" is a much-needed book for everyone looking to make their mark on the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous read! 30 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback
When you start reading this book your world changes. At first, your inner world changes. And then, the change is visible, it's becoming tangible. This book is definitely one of the best books I ever read in my life! It's inspiring, it's tremendous, the amount of experience in it is just overwhelming and it's so easy to read! The thing is, there's literally a lesson on every single page and it's so exciting to read all those examples about entrepreneurs and successful people. I'm absolutely sure that I would re-read this book over and over and over. Because it's just perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Reboot your creative mind 14 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a very refreshing book to read. It is extremely well written - it is delivered in a very personal style as if the author is really just talking with you about something she is passionate about and just needs to share with you to make your day better. The content is also great. If you have been boxed in to years of delivery and execution it can help you remember what it was like to have an original thought, to challenge assumptions in a creative way for the sake of opportunity and not just for risk mitigation.

It could help you to reboot your brain.

I recommend it to anyone who wants to have their thoughts provoked in a pleasant, elegant way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastically inspirational book 8 Jun 2010
Format:Hardcover
This book was a fantastic read, recommended by Guy Kawasaki on his blog and I am very happy I followed his recommendation. It is very well written in a short, nice and clear fashion. The author has certainly very clever teaching methods and I wish all my university teachers had been as inspiring as she is. Well worth reading!!!
