5.0 out of 5 stars A definitive bible for the stylistically nervous 18 Mar 2005
By hkwb
Format:Hardcover
Trinny & Susannah may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I find this book invaluable. It's easy to read and goes into a great deal of detail on all areas of style; from clothes to shoes to accessories, make-up, hair and beauty. And although it might seem a little daunting to read, it's designed to be "dipped" into rather than read from cover to cover.
If you've never really had any idea what colours actually suit you, have never ventured beyond a modest application of black mascara and eyeliner, and you're unsure if those expensive earrings you bought are achingly hip or tragically frumpy, this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Book Out Of The Series 11 Dec 2005
Format:Paperback
I have read each and every single Trinny and Susannah book, including their new one, and as I am under the age of 21, it does not really apply to me, BUT the best book out of the entire series has to be What You Wear Can Change Your Life. And it's true! My life has been changed so much - all I used to wear is black and it used to totally depress me. Now I know what colours I can wear, what styles I suit etc. I really would recommend this book - I have spent hours reading it and putting together outfits etc! (and have had the best fun) I have also learnt how to make my lips look bigger, how to apply foundation and what type of mascara to use. BUY THIS BOOK - It'll be worth it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining read full of home truths 7 Oct 2004
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Curious about the title, I ordered this book. The style is informal and funny. I think every working Mum juggling their domestic roles will recognize themselves here...particularly our refusal to throw away underwear that is in an awful condition..hardly flattering..and to clear out a wardrobe full of clothes that you cannot wear. Particularly, trousers that refuse to accept your growing thighs, t-shirts that seem to creep up your front as your midrift grows. All in hope of the day when we will get back into a size 12...no chance. So why not make the most of the "here and now" regardles of shape or size?
I was entertained by the read and have paid considerable thought about being more adventurous with colours, shoes and styles on my next shopping trip. The authors provide lists of places to get fitted out and these are classified by cost so technically even the humblest of pockets should be able to do something.

5.0 out of 5 stars Valuable fashion and beauty guide 26 Oct 2004
Format:Hardcover
After becoming addicted to Trinny and Susannah's 'What Not To Wear' TV show on the BBC, i had to buy their latest book on how to be more fashionable.
This book is their best so far. It tells you how to find out what colours suit you, what accessories are good for your face and body shape and what type of clothes you should and shouldn't wear to accentuate your assets! The girls also have a Hair, beauty and makeup section in the book, showing you best makeup buys and tips about spots/acne (Trinny suffered with persistant acne), wrinkles, cellulite, tanning and lots more. Other chapters tell you the best way to pose for photos, how to store clothes and shoes and how to pack for travel!
If you are 15 or 50, this book will be something you refer to again and again when you're a bit stuck for fashion or don't know what to buy. Even more if you are a fan of the show!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fills in all the gaps 24 Sep 2004
Format:Hardcover
This is the book that fills in all the gaps that the first "what not to wear" guides do not cover. how to choose what colours suit you, make-up and skin care, accessories and how to store and care for all your fab new purchases.
trinny and susannah are a breath of fresh air with their brutal honesty about their own - and each other's! - figures. this book has not left my coffee table since i bought it. all my girlfriends have been poring over it! indispensible!

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't get your knickers in a twist ladies 30 Dec 2004
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Hang on now everyone.... this book is actually very enjoyable. It sets out with the intention to address the ruts that we all get ourselves into with the various life changes that we go through, with having babies, going through the menopause etc. It is easy to stop seeing yourself objectively, or to give up, or to always buy black... The book forces you to stop and have a look at yourself, and then gives various little tricks to remember when you go shopping. It isn't an attack on individuality at all, and if you think that you have missed the point....they say explicitly that what looks good on you may look terrible on your friend, and vice versa... I think Britain is better off for having someone introduce us to the science of dressing. You may not like their ferocious upper-middle class city girl style, but sometimes we all need a kick and this book accomplishes this (and is far better that previous books). Congratulations Trinny and Suzannah for a well produced, well illustrated book.

4.0 out of 5 stars You don't have to buy it 30 Nov 2004
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
If you are sensitive or regard yourself as highly 'individualistic' or eccentric then don't buy this book. However, if you agree with the authors' philosophy that other people judge you by your appearance whether you like it or not, and you want to change how others see you, then this book is very good.
Most people have seen the authors in action so they should know what they're letting themselves in for. I think it's a very good compilation of their experiences of what works and what doesn't, with lots of photography to illustrate their points. There's a good section which explains colour.
It is not about taking away your individuality, it's about enhancing your personality. If you want other people to see YOU rather than your style faux-pas, read this book.
I had a very good flick though in Waterstone's and hope someone buys it for me for Christmas.
