Book Description

Nanny required to take care of needs of busy professional London family

When penniless student Ali Sparrow answers Bryony and Nick Skinner's advertisement her life changes overnight.

She is catapulted into the privileged and excessive world of London's financial elite. At first everything is overwhelming - from twins who speak their own language to a teenage girl with weight issues and a son almost her own age. Then there is Bryony, who has one eye on her dazzling career and the other on Ali's failings.

When boom turns to bust and a scandal erupts that suggests something corrupt has been hatched behind the Skinners' front door, their private life is suddenly public news. And as Ali becomes indispensible, she realizes she's witness to things she probably shouldn't see.

But is she principled enough to keep the family's secrets when the press come prowling for the inside scoop? Or will she dish the dirt on the family who never saw her as anything other than part of the scenery?

1.0 out of 5 stars Slow and boring 12 Oct 2011
By J. Holmes VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I found this book very tedious and not well written. The characters were shallow, self centred and very dislikeable. It took four chapters before the nanny was even hired. If it wasn't chosen by my reading group I would have given up on it much sooner.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointed 8 Oct 2011
By pezzo
Format:Kindle Edition
I was quite excited about reading this book, as I expected it to reveal something at the end....But it didnt it left you with nothing. It described way to much about the ways of the banking world that i found myself skimming over pages and pages. There were parts of the book that were really good and that was what kept me from putting the book down :(. However when i reach the end of the book all i kept thinking was OMG i ve lost ?hrs of my life that i won t get back. Really disappointed.

Could not get into this book at all and didn't like any of the characters. I am glad I borrowed it from the library and didn't waste any money on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone - but I liked it
The title, like the rest of this book, is a bit too clever for its own good. Despite what you might deduce, the story isn't very smutty, and it's certainly not set in Victorian... Read more
