Format:Audio CD
This generous selection of nearly 20 songs captures steve forberts early work brilliantly.
The tracks come from his first 4 albums and also live recordings.
Romeos tune is great and should be played more.
Song for katrina is beautiful as well as listen to me.
The oil song is great fun- a try at historic songs for steve forbert - but is maybe too long at 6 minutes.
Amongst the live recordings is the gem Samson and delilahs beauty shop. Never got on an album , but is a classic.
School girl and ya ya next to me are great too.
If you like this cd buy the albums Jackrabbit slim and alive on arrival first, then his later ones

Yes, it's brim-full of classic Forbert tracks but, as one reviewer said, buy the first two albums - Alive on Arrival and Jackrabbit Slim- before going any further. The problem with this, as for so many Best Of compilations, is that the songs don't sit comfortably next to each other. To my jaundiced ears, the songs I wasn't already familiar with had all the hallmarks of filler - in the end, all this cd did for me was drive me back to the original albums - the 2 above-mentioned plus 'Steve Forbert' from 1982. After that, it appears his muse has been only sporadically in attendance - the one or two forays into his later works I've risked have been disappointing- lack of inspiration might also explain the apparent proliferation of live solo recordings, catering for an audience which hankers after the joy of those earlier works. So, don't buy this, buy those the above 3 and you really won't be disappointed!

I bought this 'best of' album for just two tracks: 'goin down to laurel' & 'oil'. What an error of judgement - having just received the album I'm steadily wearing it out. I could easily run out of superlatives.
This is the almost classical story of an incredibly talented individual being stitched up by the music industry; as we are all too painfully aware this industry appears merely about creaming off the dough.
Should you be the type of dope who thinks 'The X Factor' is about talent, why would you be reading this?
Steve Forbert is an amalgam of incredible song-writing, singing and musicianship and deserves to have been a hell of a lot more successful, but isn't that all too often the case?
Buy this album, you will not be disappointed. Okay don't listen to me, but do 'listen to me' track 17 - stunning, and 19 ' it isn't gonna be that way' absolutely sublime. Yes buy this album and stick one in the eye of the music industry executives (and 'X Factor').
It isn't gonna be that way, but it should.
