I discovered this album in a far-off time when I played bass in a pub band. Our drummer played his vinyl version and I knew the opening track Take It Off The Top (it was the backing music for Top of the Pops). That one rocks - but the rest of the album is amazing. Night Meets Light is like no other piece of music and its melodies and harmonies are most intricate. It's a great piece to play last thing before sleeping.

The rest of the Dregs catalogue is equally stunning. There is no "style". These guys can play anything - and do. Rock, hard rock, jazz, freeform, bluegrass, country, etc, etc.

And they do it with feeling. For extra treats, key the following into your browser on visits to Amazon: Steve Morse. Turn the volume up - and enjoy!

Another wonderful CD by the power band Dixie Dregs. James Murphy recorded cover of Odyssey on his second solo release Feeding The Machine with Stuart Hamm on bass and Jeremy Colson on drums and I was very pleased to hear the original with violin and (let's call it) analog sound. The whole album is complex with rock, country, jazz and hard rock elements nicely mixed together, great successor to Freefall and another pearl in my CD collection. As for Freefall, I call this "back to the roots", this is the beginning of the genre that I really like, progressive rock, with excellent musicianship and great musical ideas. No cheating, no programming, ... just skills and hard work. Excellent.

This is an outstanding record ! The musicianship is first class, the melodies are fun and entertaining. I would say that if you enjoy jazz rock with a bit of funk thrown in you will be guaranteed to enjoy this. Think about Stanley Clarke. I find myself laughing with excitement at the sounds and tunes I hear. I went on to buy a live album ( Bring Em Back Alive ) and Free Fall.
