I think the other reviewer, as mentioned by himself, missed the genius of it...

The film is not about a big plot...is about every day life, trivial things...

it's beautiful for it's simplicity, the acting, direction, clever jokes...it would help if u could see it in spanish and knew something about Spanish culture at the time it was done.

It's very difficult to produce something complicated and make it look like it was effortless, just like that was an hidden camera filming those people's life.

For some reason is considered to be one of the best Almodovar films.

Truly outrageous, witty, barbed and a great vehicle for Carmen Maura's talents. Part John Waters, part Eldorado. Not as dark as the wonderful 'Laws Of Desire', which is criminally unavailable on VHS or DVD at the moment, nor as assured as 'Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown', it still remains one of my favourite Almodovar films.

Dark and twisted, but somehow at the same time sweet and human. A very funny look at a very dysfunctional family. Mom ends up killing dad, one kid is a drug dealer, the other is a doctor's teenage gay lover, and their neighbor is a happy hooker. Sort of a family sit-com on acid.

Some wonderful performances, and even moments real emotion sneak in here and there. It does start to wear down by the end, and doesn't add up to a lot (other than being part off the young Almodovar's stick in the eye of the old repressive Spanish order) , but it's unique and kind of lovable, like it's characters.
