'Powerful and life-changing.' (Bear Grylls )

Product Description

Speaker, journalist and bestselling author, Philip Yancey has travelled the world tackling the most challenging questions:

Can God truly bring solace to the terrorised people of Mumbai, or the students who witnessed the murder of their classmates?
Will the deep scars of racism ever heal in post-apartheid South Africa, or the American South?
Can a persecuted Christian minority have any impact in places as hostile as China or the Middle East?

For each of his ten destinations, WHAT GOOD IS GOD? shares Philip's inspiring words of encouragement and reveals the compelling story behind the speaking engagement.

Whether he's addressing alcoholics or Bible college students, sex workers or C. S. Lewis enthusiasts, Yancey's experiences of redemption, hope and grace provide evidence that when we are severely tested, faith really does matter.

God's goodness.... 9 Dec 2010
By J. DOUGLAS TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Yancey travels the world to share stories of loss and pain and the beat of faith that emerges through them. He suggests that nothing is beyond God's redemption and sometimes it is in the crushing that we discover faith that really matters. Listening to people's stories from around the world reminds me that God's grace and goodness know no boundaries. He is at work in the most unlikely of circumstances and indeed, God is good.
Philip Yancey presents his ideas about spirituality in an extremely realistic and practical way. He examines the concept of God's goodness and the value of faith in the troubled times we live in and does duck difficulty or bypass pain. Yancey is comfortable with ambiguity to avoid generalizing and giving advice not based on truth. As a committed Christian, there are doubts and concerns that are ever-present in my mind that a simple, "Christian" answer doesn't quite satisfy, and this book does address some of them. I love that Yancey challenges the way Christians think about the world without discounting the value of faith.
This book is a must-read for Christians looking for insight, spiritual seekers, or even individuals who are curious about the tennents of the Christian faith. Yancey's style makes everything very understandable without being condescending or clichéd!. Encouragement and hope shine through!

Yancey again? 14 Mar 2011
By Dr.T
Format:Paperback
Yancey again, you say? Yes, another Yancey book, and having read most of his writings, I need to tell you that this book is a must. You will not be able to leave it down! Each chapter has a similar format - he describes in interesting detail a country he has been asked to speak in, and then the second part of the chapter is the text of his address, speaking into that situation. A wonderful book - you will not be disappointed!

Philip addresses a variety of hard questions in this world with a Christian perspective that is both deeply spiritually insightful as well as down to earth and practical. A great read and a real eye opener as to how Christians can talk about God to a needy world.
