I hear an aweful lot of blues both live and on CD during the course of every year. There are albums and acts that are OK,some interesting and some that quite literally are tremendous,Marcus Bonfanti with this album has for me produced a release that is very special indeed and deserves to be heard.A friend recently saw him do a short set at of all places a literary fair in Oxford and was blown away with his voice and playing. This album has twelve tracks full of great playing and excellent material, every song has something different to hear, full of original material. Marcus has a crusty voice totally fitting within the style of his songs, which range from acoustic or harmonica led to full out blues drivers.'Get Behind Me' surely one of the best songs of the year in blues really kicks into gear with some great slide guitar,'Bleecker Street' a flowing acoustic paced ballad. The opening 'Will Not Play Your Game' begins with just voice and guitar before a stomping backing comes in to really give the set a solid feel.Throughout this is top of the drawer blues by a major new talent to most people. The band are superb throughout and production just about perfect, grungy and yet solid. This album just deserves to be heard, sure to be among the best albums of the year.Do please take a listen because the more you play this the better it gets.Another seriously major UK blues talent up there with the likes of Ian Seigal,Matt Schofield, Oli Brown,Eddie Martin et all. Fabulous stuff.
