One day whilst lying on a sunbed in Cyprus I noticed that the man under the next parasol was chuckling incessantly, his walkman obviously keeping him amused.
The flight back home and all those since have not been the same because when he finally removed his headphones I enquired and he lent me the tape; David Gunson's after dinner speech about air traffic control, pilots and the aircraft they are responsible for.
That was quite some years ago, but I have never forgotten the hilarious tale of the French controllers going on strike and the British holidaymakers flying to Spain travelling over Germany and Italy.
I was ever so pleased to find that it was now available on CD. Listen to this and it will change your concept of air travel forever!

David Gunson is truely brilliant in this classic after dinner speech.
Far better than most comedians, this dry satirical look at one of the most vital things in the world, had me laughing until it hurt!
The funniest part of it all, is that it isn't a great leap of faith to believe it is all 100% true!
Enjoy.

If you have even the smallest interest in aircraft, and in typical dry English humour, then you will find this a real hoot. Everyone who hears this CD wants to borrow it or copy it to play for their friends, neither of which I will permit, since that would be against copywrite now wouldn't it.
This guy is an accomplished after dinner speaker, and is an ex-pilot, ex-air traffic controller, and great humourist, and totally knows his subject, and how to involve his audience. You should buy a copy immediately.

Just to echo the thoughts of other people on Amazon this speech is EXCELLENT. I brought it heaven knows how many years ago when I was in Air Cadets and I must say I enjoyed it then. Working as I do in Hospital Radio now I was looking for some comedy material to play during the forthcoming Hospital Radio Week and I had another listen to the tape and again laughed my socks off. I copied it onto our computer system for playout and I am sure all the patients in the hospitals we serve will enjoy it. As someone else said even though air traffic control and flying is complicated David makes it so easy to understand and give a colourful explanation to things the general public are not aware of. Definitely worth a listen to..........

Gunson is a former pilot and air-traffic controller, and now gives after-dinner speeches. Although the way flying works can be a bit technical, the layman has no problem understanding what's going on. I first heard this about 18 years ago on tape, and everyone I've played it to has been in hysterics from beginning to end. I recommend this to anyone, as it really is probably the funniest thing I've ever heard.

I first heard this "after dinner speech" around 20 years ago and it still tops my list of "brilliant humour" all these years later. Put simply, it's extremely funny, well presented and also interesting because of all the facts about Air Traffic Control.
Well worth buying a copy !!!

I am so glad I stumbled on this, purely by accident. I actually have this album on vinyl LP (!!) and, just like everybody else cannot endorse David Gunson enough. This after-dinner routine is truly and continuously hilarious, with needle sharp delivery. I can now tell all the people who have listened to my LP and want a copy that they can buy it on CD, as I will be after writing this review (the LP's getting a bit tired!!). Read the other reviews and buy, with confidence, a comedy masterpiece!!

I first heard David Gunson 15 years ago and I rolled around with laughter then. I heard it again last week and its still as funny!
The humour hasn't dated, and it will have you laughing out loud (and maybe a little nervous the next time you get on a plane).
All I can suggest is to quote David Gunson, 'find the seat which has the black box under it, because if that's all they intend recovering, you want to be strapped to it!'
