Product Description

Product Description
In the BBC2 programme, "What to Eat Now", Valentine Warner takes us on a mouth-watering, content-rich and beautifully filmed journey through the best of autumnal food. He charts the growth of his favourite foods from their first stirrings as seeds through to fully grown foods. Natural history filming techniques will capture the life-cycle of everything from rabbit to mackerel to pumpkin. The programme then follows Valentine as he brings each ingredient back from the river, sea, woodland and field, shore or highland and launches it into ovens, pans and barbecues. He cooks 3-4 dishes in each episode, both indoors and out.

About the Author
Chef and culinary explorer Valentine Warner grew up on a farm in Dorset, where he learned to fish and shoot. He spent 7 years working with top chef Alastair Little. Valentine ran his own catering company, Green Pea, which he set up with the manager of the River Cafe, and catered for big names such as Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci. He also has his own restaurant called Taqueria Cafe, situated on Westbourne Grove, London.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yum. What a delicious book!, 20 Sep 2008
By Alan (Didsbury, Manchester) - See all my reviews
This is a delicious book and my favourite new cookbook I've bought in the last year at least (I do like cookbooks). Every recipe in the book comes with a lovely story attached that explains what it means to Valentine, why it's worth trying and why you'll enjoy it. I only bought the book last Tuesday and so far I've cooked two things from it, the slow roast lamb recipe that was on last week's BBC2 programme (even before I got it out of the oven it had filled my flat with an amazing aroma and eating it was even better - it was delicious and succulent and the tastiest lamb I've ever had). Then last night I made the blackberry eton mess - I've never cooked meringue before but the recipe was so simple that I thought I'd give it a go and it was DELICIOUS (even if I say so myself!). He's a very posh bloke that Valentine but he makes me laugh on the TV and the recipes in the book are really delicious. I know that the recipes in the book are what I'm going to be eating now and for a long time in the future. I'm really looking forward to next Monday's TV show, I wonder what he's going to cook. Thinking about it is making me feel hungry again...

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of british cookery, 8 Oct 2008
By Nicola (Kent) - See all my reviews
I don't buy many cookery books and generally stick to a few tried and trusted recipes but this book made me change my mind. The TV programme is just good fun and Valentine's passion for food and eating is infectious. I am now looking forward to going shopping at the weekend and trying some of the delicious recipes for myself. I'm certainly going to give about 6 people this book for christmas and I know they'll all love it

5.0 out of 5 stars full of flavour - of the food and the cook himself!, 24 Oct 2008
By Tangerine (London, UK) - See all my reviews
What to Eat Now is a good cook book, and a great read - perfect for dipping in and out of as the evenings get dark and chillier. The focus is on getting the best from seasonal ingredients, and Valentine Warner has a down-to-earth way of describing types of food that I'd normally avoid as 'too complicated', like venison or pigeon, that makes you want to get down to your local butcher and try them out. There's also simple stuff like corned beef hash (delicious!) and a definitive scrambled eggs. His writing style is very jolly and honest, and the recipes are interspersed with squiggly drawings and photos. What really comes across, however, is that Warner is the sort of honestly greedy cook who understands his ingredients well enough to cook 'off the cuff' with what's there, just to see what will happen - and that makes me want to try his recipes even more. Recommended.
