The first few chapters are promising and the characters are endearing, but I feel the story could have gone further. The end of the book seems to come too soon and your left feeling a little disappointed. You are introduced to many characters that don't really have any relevance to the structure of the story although the names and descriptions are great.
Although it has its faults I am pleased that I read the book, it's a cute little story, maybe a little more suited for children.

Although I'm not quite sure what I expected. Something more along the lines of Wicked, I suppose.
But this has a different charm, I guess, there's a story in a story, which isn't always the best set up, although Maguire pulls it off. Just about. It's aimed at quite a younger audience, which is obviously an important factor.
It just didn't impress me. The title was a lot to live up to, and I felt the whole idea was unexplored. It wasn't a bad novel, just, well, a bit basic?
I'm hesitant in saying this, because I've changed my mind about Maguires work before... but I just don't feel like it lived up to it's potential at all. Average. My reccomendation: borrow it from the library, or off a friend. No need to buy it.

I will admit now that I purchased this book because I have everything else Gregory Maguire has ever written, it was to complete the collection, I didn't expect a masterpiece but I do love his work so I knew that I would at least enjoy it. I loved it. I fell straight into the story on the very first page and kept turning until I was finished a hours later. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book, it may be aimed at someone younger that my 25 years but so what, its a great book, will it change my life? No, very few books every could. It is the only Maguire book thats sits on my "favorites" self and have recommended it to all my friends and family, don't just borrow it - buy it!

The subtitle "The story of a rogue tooth fairy" made me expect a story a little darker than the one hiding beneath the moody cover. Read more
