Explaining some of Darwin's discoveries to children is quite a challenge, but this book beautifully conveys what kids need to know. There is plenty of information, absorbing illustrations and the little touches of humour which really help. The text doesn't get bogged down in detail, but there's an honest, realistic approach from the beginning - kids can read some of Darwin's own words but are helped to think about 'what was it like for Darwin, what did he feel and see and how did he think?' My family enjoyed sharing young Darwin's feelings as a medical student around a gory operating table, the thrill of his big sea adventure, his confusion and sense of wonder around the world. Highly recommended for inquisitive kids.
