This is a beautiful book in all respects. The pictures are gorgeous and, for a book dramatizing the extremes of black and white, richly varied in both colour and detail.
In all there are seven images, the first six alternating images of black or white, with the final surprise combining both colours and making a pleasing coda; but this description does little for the book's charm.
It was one of the first books we read with our son. It is wonderfully designed for small hands as the pages reduce in size and are therefore easier to turn over. The board book format also renders them resistant to chewing and other hazards.
This is a deceptively perfect book. The pictures are a delight, a mixture of crayon and paint, and the lettering is just as pleasing.
This is one of the best books for very young children we have ever come across.
