A sturdy new edition of a classic novelty board book for babies and toddlers.

Product Description

Combining graphic pictures with ingeniously simple novelty devices, What Is Black and White? reveals, page by page, that the night is black, the snow is white, the cat is black, the milk is white, and as the final pages are turned there's a big surprise: a zebra!

A Great Concept! 23 Oct 2002
Format:Hardcover
Being an art person, I find that there are tonnes of books on all the colours of the rainbow. Black and white are just as important to recognize as all of the other colours. It is refreshing to find a book with such a simple concept that is so well thought out - making it all the more impressive! The clever layout of the pages and the wonderful illustrations made this a must have, along with all of this authors other books, in our library and at our playgroup!

This is a beautiful book in all respects. The pictures are gorgeous and, for a book dramatizing the extremes of black and white, richly varied in both colour and detail.

In all there are seven images, the first six alternating images of black or white, with the final surprise combining both colours and making a pleasing coda; but this description does little for the book's charm.

It was one of the first books we read with our son. It is wonderfully designed for small hands as the pages reduce in size and are therefore easier to turn over. The board book format also renders them resistant to chewing and other hazards.

This is a deceptively perfect book. The pictures are a delight, a mixture of crayon and paint, and the lettering is just as pleasing.

This is one of the best books for very young children we have ever come across.

In this lovely little board book, Petr Horacek shows us seven things that are black or white, and one that is black and white! In addition to the gorgeous illustrations, the pages are cut in an inventive way that leads to a nice surprise at the end. The quality of the board is good and has withstood the attentions of my one-year-old for over six months now. The book makes a great companion for Strawberries Are Red (Look Inside) for introducing colours to pre-schoolers.
