Stunningly beautiful pictures, full of info, as are all Insight Guides, book really gives you a good idea of what to expect. The only disappointment is the synopsis says the book gives a 'guide to the top whale and dolphin watching destinations around the world'. But when I received the book it only covers North America/Canada which is not as useful to me as I want to know where I can watch/swim with wild dolphins and whales world-wide and I feel this book is much more suited to Americans, so I will read it at home rather than being able to take it with me on my dolphin journey.

Whale Watching has obviously been written by passionate whale watchers. It is written in an entertaining, easy-to-read style and it is lavishly illustrated with maps and stunning photographs. Each expert manages to take a no-nonsense approach with their writing that dispels myths, both modern and ancient. They show you how to increase your chances of spotting one of these elusive creatures while ensuring your encounter is as low-impact on the environment as possible. Section one deals with history, holidays and gear. Section two defines cetaceans Section three provides travel tips and in-depth information for each whale-spotting area. A truly delightful book which will be of equal interest to enthusiasts and those with just a passing curiosity in the subject.

This is an excellent guide to whale watching in the northern hemisphere (pity it does not cover the southern though). It has all the information one would need to plan an excellent nature (read. whale and dolphin watching) getaway and has some interesting introductions. I have read and reread this book several times due to its style of writing (there are several authors penning different chapters, each with their own unique style). Helps you to picture the whale watching spots in your head. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in going for whale watching excursions in the nothern hemisphere!
