The wait is over. Its been four years since their last studio album and now The Real McKenzies are back! SHINE NOT BURN in 2010 was a great live album but it was still nothing compared to the energy coming from these guys on a studio record. This album reminded me why i loved this band so much. WESTWINDS is a brilliant album in which the band do what they do best : Scottish Punk Rock in all its forms. The album is very easy to listen to, The music is great and very compelling, if you like bagpipes and you like rock, you need to give this a try....
There's a song for everyone on this record; A Ballad, Awesome Scottish Hymns (kids like to call it "pirate" music), Solid Rock, Bagpipes and an Acapella hymn.... The album is good from start to finish, no songs are boring or hard to enjoy, there's no hardcore here, only clean punk rock music. Paul McKenzie showed us once again why he's such an amazing singer, the song THE TEMPEST is probably one of his best vocal performance, its gloriously sing from the heart and you can feel it from the first notes. Still gives me goose bumps! Another song with killer vocals and harmonies on this new album would be BARRETTS PRIVATEER, an amazing Acapella song in which everyone is singing along, beautiful vocal harmonies that just makes me want to grab a few beers and a pirate suit and go sailing on the sea.
Check out also for a very special hidden song dedicated to Fat Mike, front man of NOFX , very funny.........I highly recommend this album to any Real McKenzie's and/or Punk Rock fans, Fat Wreck Chords fans and Dropkick Murphy's fans as well. This album is a winner, no doubt about it. Just grab a beer and put this in your CD player, you'll be all set!
