"Crafts, recipes, songs, and games teamed with an engaging text will have young readers convinced that they're just having fun." --"School Library Journal"

Got the pioneer spirit? Kids do--they love pioneer stuff!
I wrote this book because whenever I did a library or school program I asked, "What should I write next?" and children usually said, "We love pioneer stuff...do something about them." So, I thought about it and decided the West was perfect for a kids' activity book. I've read nearly a hundred books about the West, and ferreted out every bit of interesting fact I could. Then I tried to put it all into a book that had a hands-on approach to history. Kids learn history by mixing up sourdough flapjacks, sipping portable soup (just like Lewis & Clark did), even learning how to lay out a land survey! How about "witching" for a water well? Or oiling paper windows for a prairie soddy? I think this book was the most fun to write. It's my favorite!
