5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive & functional 8 July 2010
By Diana H
Format:Map|Amazon Verified Purchase
A good map for getting an overall perspective for my recent island hopping holiday, but what a pity OS no longer seem to produce a metric equivalent of the old 2 miles to the inch maps which were ideal for cyclists. I had to supplement this 1:250,000 map with over £80 worth of new 1:50,000 maps to get the detail I wanted for each day's travel. I believe even this map is also discontinued now and that the whole of Scotland is currently available only at 1:500,000 - that at least was all I could find on the OS website.

5.0 out of 5 stars The West Highlands and Islands... 17 Oct 2009
By D. S. Thurlow - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Map|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ordnance Survey publishes maps of the United Kingdom at a variety of scales. The Road Traveler Series provides regional coverage at a 1:250,000 scale; there are a total of eight sheets for the whole of Britain. Road Travel Map # 2 is "Western Scotland & the Western Isles."

The coverage of Map #2 begins on its south margin at Greenock (just north of Glasgow), goes north to Durness and Cape Wrath in the North of Scotland, and sufficiently west to pick up the islands of the Inner and Outer Hebrides. The scale and multicolored presentation permit road planning and navigation between the major population centers and an appreciation of the terrain. The map includes a handy place names index to locate any of the numerous small towns and villages in the West Highlands. Some of the outer islands are covered by inset maps. Map symbology is sufficiently detailed to point out items of tourist interest such as castles, vistas, and camping grounds. The map is not sufficient for cross-country or over water navigation. There are other Ordnance Survey products for those needs.

"Ordnance Survey Road Travel Map #2: Western Scotland & the Western Isles" is very highly recommended to travelers and others needing a large scale map for planning and navigation purposes.
