    Excellent drives. 14 Aug 2009
    By K. King
I have used WD Caviar Green drives before. I liked the fact that they adjust spindle speed to reduce power consumption. As a result I knew I could just upgrade my PCs two smaller drives safe in the knowledge that my PSU would handle it with no problems. These feel like well built drives and the "Green" effect means that they are also quiet and do not generate a great deal of heat whilst in use. I have them quietly spinning away in my PC as I type, having put Windows on one within minutes of leaving the box!

I was concerned having read some quite negative reviews relating to the hard drives packaging, or rather the lack of it. However I was keen to buy at the price and thought I would take the risk. I wasnt disappointed. My drives turned up in separate boxes with three layers of foam in each and an anti-static bag(I have added 2 pics to illustrate). I believe that Amazon and their suppliers have taken note of peoples obvious disapproval and corrected their past errors. So packaging good, and a fast delivery!

Well thats it really very happy, so far anyway. I trust their reliability because my WD experiences have all been good and they are SO simple to install nothing could go wrong. These are exactly what I wanted; reliable, larger scale storage for my home PC at a great price.

Usual simple and easy ordering process (having sent a previous similar drive back because it was faulty I know their returns system works well too, so well done to Amazon).
Arrived with free delivery a couple of days after ordering it, too.
Nice quiet drive, formatting as I write, no problems so far.
Watch out for Amazon's packaging though. I have bought about 15 hard drives in the past from various places including Amazon - and never before has one arrived with no protection whatsoever against shock (neither foam nor airbag protection). Just a drive in a maker's original antistatic bag and a cardboard book package holding it, sent by Royal Mail post. Hey folks, tell your despatch department disc drives are FRAGILE items!
    Service and value 5 stars
Packaging 1 star (And I do hope it still works properly once formatted)

Purchased this from amazon for £79.99 a couple of weeks ago. Much quieter than the previous drive and seems great at the moment (time will tell how long it lasts.) My product also turned up in an anti-static bag in a box and no extra padding or anything. Whether this will reduce its lifespan I don't know.
