Just got this last week and was very pleased with how easy the drive links to Apple's Time Machine (automatic on plugging in). It does take quite some time to back up the entire computer the first time (overnight and then some for 108GB), but subsequent backups take a few seconds.

No loose cords, looks like that problem has been fixed.

The one thing I do have issue with is updates. Whenever I attempt to update the firmware the drive gets bumped off my desktop and no update is possible. I have researched problem and apparently it might be possible to update on a PC, but as this version from WD is supposed to be for MAC why haven't they created the updates to work smoothly on the MAC platform?

A bit sloppy.

Otherwise the drive seems to do what it should.

Works great as a HDD should. And Western Digital never failed me, where a Seagate device i.e. went down at least 3 times during my HDD usage history. Nice cables, nice desgin, lovely speeds. Does what it should

Two bad points though:
1-The HDD will not be recognized on any PC before installing the drivers. So if you want to use it as a Data storage carry the CD with drivers wherever you go.
2-The Gigabytes numeric indicator (not the bar indicator) disappears while connected to Linux machines. Can imagine the same happens with Mac? Returns once connected back to Windows.

I use it as my archive for important data but due to necessity of installing it on PC with drivers you can't carry it around to no pre-installed PCs. D'oh!

Our need for an external hard drive was becoming more obvious. Work, music, pictures and applications growing by the day. Did a bit of research on the net about setting it up. Plugged the unit into the Imac and time machine did (and does) the rest. Very smooth, quiet and efficient. With Firewire 800 pretty damn quick as well.

Did not use the supplied software as wanted to keep it simple.

So far very happy.

Matches our Macbook Pro well in appearance and really is just a fit and forget item.

I didn't bother with the software - just did a plug and play. Not had to use it yet but if/when I do, I know it'll all be safe on the HD. Quiet too which is useful.

Update 22/05/14 - we have two of these and both died after about a year. Not so good...
