Arrived on time, just as I ordered. I had to replace my existing 500gb disk drive due to disk errors. It was also Western Digital Scorpio Blue. I have since reformatted the 500gb disk and use it as a backup. 250gb is sufficient for my laptop.
I have had one of these in a MacBook for 7 months and it has been fine so far. I prefer it to the WD Scorpio Black drive, which I found to be rather noisy. Always back up your data to another drive.
Took an age to arrive with super saver delivery option - nearly 3 weeks - because of the bad weather(?). The drive is an advanced format drive and took a bit of setting up before I could get my computer to recognise it. I wanted to use it as a backup drive in a caddy and to get it up and running I had to go to the "Administative Tools" in "Control Panel" (Windows XP)to initialise and format it. Once my computer recognised it as a disk drive I then ran a utility called WD Align from Acronis which is downloadable free - details on the drive itself. I wasn't completely sure what I was doing but it worked! Its a great drive at a good price so apart from the delivery and the drive not being plug and play for Windows XP - apparently Windows 7 should recognise it straight away - I am very happy with it. It would make a great upgrade or replacement HD for a laptop but if you just want an external drive in a caddy it might be a lot easier just to buy a ready built external drive unit.
