Quiet and uses little power,
By The drive is well packed between layers of foam and within two boxes. More than adequate protection. I choose this model because the power draws were very low. Around 6-8 watts when under load, and around 2-3 idle. I have another WD drive that is quiet, but it's near impossible to hear any sound from this 1.5gb model. In terms of what the 64mb Cache does, there isn't at noticible real world performance difference to my WD 8mb 7200rpm cache drive. Transfers are around 30mb/s with both drives. Access is about the same on both. Perhaps the 64mb makes up for spinning at a lower speed (5400rpm as opposed to 7200rpm) I purchase this product purely on it's green credentials, power draw and audibility, and I'm not disappointed thus far.

Excellent,
By The biggest difference from my old drive is the noise. There is no clicking or buzzing like I'm used to. I can't hear when Windows has stop loading anymore. The only evidence of noise when you're pushing the drive hard is a very slightly increased wrrrrrrrrrr, which I only noticed when the side of my case was off. It also runs about 5 degrees cooler than the other WD 500GB 7200rpm drive which is running in the next bay. Overall, I highly recommend it
