I used this drive as a direct replacement on my dell xps 1330 laptop. Workes flawlesly and is nice and quiet. The speed of the drive is alot better performing than the old 150GB 7200rpm one. it does run a little warm, but maybe something to do with being in a small laptop. Overall im very happy with this drive and its performance.

I felt compelled to write a review about this drive because its so good. I did a lot of research before buying and the fastest drives on the planet for laptops are Seagate Momentus or WD Black Scorpio. I chose Western Digital because of past experience and great online reviews.

So in a nutshell, here's the following:
Speed? Goes like absolute stink!
Noise? What noise?!?
Heat? Barely seems to get warm!
Power? Uses less power than most 5,400rpm drives.

Swapped out my two Toshiba 5,400rpm drives and the installed the WD Black Scorpios. After re-installing Windows, my laptop seems to be running on Nitrous Oxide! Truly amazing, plus their whisper quite.

So if you want to have your cake and eat it, get this drive!

Negative points? Just one. Why did it take me so long to get one.... :-)

I purchased the WD Scorpio Black to replace the same make & model in my Dell Studio 15.
The disk was easy to install with only the one connector. The old drive (WD1200BJKT) was just as easy to install in a HP nc6320.
Partitioning was easy (c:=win,d:=data, z:=page) and I migrated the old partitions using Partition Magic.
On the Dell I notices no differance as it was only an increase in capacity but with the HP a significant increase in speed. The old HP drive was a standard 5400rpm drive. The faster spin speed and transfer speed appears to make a lot of differance. Battery life appears slightly extended as well, I'm not sure if this drive had a lower power consumption but it does produce less heat. It is also quiter when running.
The drive also comes with a free fall sensor that should help prevent damage should your computer be roughly handled.
