I purchased this CD for a few reasons, I'm interested in embryonic Rock & Roll, I think compilations allow you to sample & build on themes & I like compilations that stick to a genre, in this case "Rockabilly". Ace Records label tends to dig quite deep into whatever project catches their attention & they can put their minds to, but what I like also is Ace maintain a very good product.
If you are looking for Top of the chart compilation or a "Best of Rockabilly" than this is not what you need, If you like regional Country Bop with strong influences that would have made an impression on a budding young Buddy Holly then here you have it. Norman Petty productions, early Roy Orbison songs, plus 12 previously unavailable tracks.
Interesting to note "the Roses" the singing side of Buddy Holly's Crickets, Sonny Curtis one of the Crickets & Peanuts Wilson are all included here & all had connections to one of greatest influences of early Rock & Roll.
Recommended if you like the historical development of early rock music & even if you just like Rockabilly.
