excellent product. the handle is silicon type, not some cheap plastic, and it feels very good, good grip and does not get too hot. the whistle is loud enough to hear it from another room, but it is unlikely not wake your neighbours. overall seems to be well built. the "flick switch system" appears to be tough made, no signs it should give any trouble.
made in germany, and these days it means a lot.

ok,.. i'm a guitar teacher, and have many people around,..99% of them drink tea or coffee,we have an 'open' style house where many of our friends pop in,(almost continually!)..we make near to (maybe over! i don't count) a hundred cups of tea a week, and have gone through sooooo many kettles .. tea for me is more important than wine.!! wine is VERY important! this kettle has been with us for months,..nearly a year. it's showing no sign of wear. the handle is comfy and cool to the touch and gives this very classy but understated kettle a reassuring feel. the whistle is loud enough to hear anywhere in the house, but (unlike many!) is not overly harsh. water doesn't splash back,..the lid is a firm fit without being wrestleworthy tight. the little silicon bit on the 'presser' (well i don't know what it's called!) is still stuck fast (unlike the other kettles we've had , where after a week or two it's dropped off and you get a hot finger!) this feels like a german car! it's solid and reliable. we're seriously thinking if buying a spare, it's that good. i don't write many reviews because i don't have the time,.. but this (along with brabantia tin openers!) deserves a medal for making something with such excellent build quality. if you're from WESCO and you read this,..don't you DARE change anything. best kettle we've EVER had.AWESOME!

Excellent item - just as described. Very good quality. Doesn't take too long to boil and has a really good loud whistle. Have already noticed the reduction to our electricity bill by not boiling an electric kettle all the time - I'm glad the electric one packed in. Would really recommend the Wesco Kettle.

UPDATE: We've had our third kettle for a couple of weeks now and knob on the lid is still on. They seem to have sorted out the problem at last. Fantastic, now we have the perfect kettle

We absolutely loved this kettle. It's a design that not only looks superb, but works as well as it looks. We bought it to go with our new induction hob and were really pleased with our purchase. We looked long and hard to find just the right kettle for our new kitchen and this item fitted the bill in every department. Sadly though there is was just one niggling fly in the ointment. Not long after receiving it the knob on the lid fell off. I looked at the method of attachment and am amazed it lasted as long as it did. We sent the kettle back thinking it was a manufacturing fault. Amazon, as usual were fantastic. THe new kettle arrived, despite being delivered by Yodel. The knob on the new kettle broke off almost immediately. We were gutted.

We'll be sending this one back and asking for a refund. It's by far the best kettle we've seen so far. Wesco for goodness sake sort this problem out.

My original review is below, unfortunately, I have suffered the same experience and another reviewer. Two kettles and both knobs have come clean off the lids! The knob on the Kettle #2, after the second time I took the lid off. The knob is only held onto the lid by three tiny pin head sized prongs? Totally inadequate for the force required to remove the lid from the kettle.

I have spoken to and written to Wesco with my suggestions for resolving this design fault. I hope they can sort this out, as otherwise this would be an excellent kettle and my original review below would still stand.

Amazon, as usual have been brilliant. The replacement kettle arrived the very next day after I complained. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to request a refund for the second kettle.

ORIGINAL REVIEW which I gave 5 stars: I ordered this kettle yesterday afternoon at 4:00pm, shortly after my electric jug kettle packed up. It arrived this morning just after 8:00am. How's that for service?

This kettle will boil sufficient water for about eight large mugs of tea or coffee. This takes the water level up to about 1cm under the bottom of the spout. Enough for a large family and guests.

When I used the kettle for the first time this morning, I filled it to full, and consequently sat it on my largest gas ring, with the burner on it highest setting. When the kettle boiled, the handle and spout lever of the kettle were hot. Whilst I could hold it, I felt more comfortable and safer using a lightweight oven glove. I emptied the kettle and refilled it with enough water for just four mugs of tea. This time, I turned the gas burner down enough, so when I hovered my hand over the kettle, I could not feel the heat from the burner.

This kettle is very attractive, well made and looks great on my cream aga. The whistle isn't too good, and will only work (weakly!) when the lid is on firmly. At first it was almost impossible to stop the lid popping out, but this does seem to be resolving with use.
