5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond the cities..., 8 Oct 2001
Werewolf presents a different look at the WoD than the self involved Vampires and Magi. No other group quite understands what is going on than the Werewolves and the other shapechangers. Werewolf is very different than Vampire, but in some ways similar to Mage (if you know what the Umbra is, then your half way to understanding whats going on in this book. It canbe used as a stand alone game or mixed with one or more of the others, but be warned, the various supernatural groups do not get along, and will only work together under serious duress. Still, if youv'e always wondered why your vampire character always ends up running for his life every time a Lupine turns up, the answer is inside.
The werewolves are a spiritual culture with a long history. This book only scratches at the surface of their secrets and traditions. The Storyteller can fill in the blanks himself or buy one of the many usefull supliments. Thus the game provides you with an almost endless range of opportunities. Buy it to play, or just to find out more about the Vampires ancient enemies, but buy it, and find out what comes after Gehenna.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well put together but nothing really new!, 26 Jun 2001
By Mr. P. D. Slack (North Yorkshire) - See all my reviews

Since it's inception, Werewolf has been well developed with sourcebooks and is well supported by gamers and White Wolf alike. As ususal with White Wolf, they have taken a classic supernatural creature and given them a really interesting and thoughtful twist. This is a 3rd edition which apparently was demanded by players; whilst it retains the flavour of werewolf and contains art from the talented Ron Spencer, to me it adds little to the world of the Garou that is not already there. The Stargazers have left the tribes and the Apocalypse draws ever nearer - like we didn't know! Also mentioned is the whole prophetic 'red star in the Umbra' thing which is dealt with more deeply in another book 'Rage Across the Heavens.' Still, Werewolf is in my top 5 favourite RPG's and it is great to see the interest still there. It's just that 2nd edition Werewolf is fine and you don't need the revised edition.
