About the Author
Helen Oxenbury is the renowned illustrator of many classic picture books, including We?re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig by Eugene Trivizas. Ms. Oxenbury lives with her husband, illustrator John Burningham, in North London.

The story itself is the same as all other versions of 'Bear Hunt', however this enhanced pop-up edition also features tab-movement controlled pop-up pages. The pages in this edition alternate between the ('normal') black-and-white and colour-washed illustrated pages... but it this edition, the colour-washed pages are all pop-up with movement.
The pop-up version of 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' is one that is definitely worth consideration from parents/teachers as a 'for special' book... but if this edition of the book is to have any kind of life span, this needs to be with very careful handling by children.
Upon arrival, some of the tabs are very, very stiff and these need to be worked a bit, so that they are running smoothly, before the book is given to a child/ children.
Ultimately, this remains a five-star book for story and how well children love it. However, this particular edition - though beautiful - is extremely expensive. And although the attractiveness of the book has been increased by the pop-up mechanisms, the same mechanisms diminish the useability of the book: the risk of damage is greater!

I have a preschool class of 3-6 year olds and this is the favorite, (mine too!) They will sit in the reading area and recite it word for word.

My daughter love this one!

This book is one that gets your child excited for book time. If you get into it when you're reading it and act out the sounds, your child will to! It's a great story and my daughter walks around saying, "We're going on a bear hunt, we're going to catch a big one"....it's a favorite book that she asks for. The pop ups are great, too!

This book was a favorite of now grown grandchild. Before we could wear out library copy, we had to buy her one of her own (which she did wear out). Now she expects her own baby and first thing she wanted for that baby was that book. I also purchased the book as a gift for older sibling of a friend's new grandchild. She says that four year old would not let go of the book while they were visiting. The pop up version just adds to the wonderfully exciting story for children.
