The scene is French Guiana, a few days before Christmas. Humphrey Bogart, Peter Ustinov and Aldo Ray play three Devil's Island "lifers" who escape from the infamous prison and hide out amongst the free colonists. In need of clothing and money, the trio makes plans to rob milliner Leo G. Carroll and his family. "We'll cut their throats for a Christmas present", Bogie, a convicted forger, remarks laconically. "That might spoil one's belief in Santa Claus" replies philosophical wife-murderer Ustinov. The three escapees are deflected from their larcenous intent when they grow fond of Carroll, his wife Joan Bennett and their daughter Gloria Talbott. Discovering that Carroll is on the verge of bankruptcy, the convicts offer their services as household help (the sight of Bogie in an apron is worth the admission price in itself). ...We're No Angels (1955) ( Angels' Cooking ) ( We Are No Angels )

This film is the sort you should watch on rainy Sunday afternoon. Where you are transported to a better time and world. It's one of those films which when finished you almost wake from a trance/dream state. You first thoughts or words are that was a great film.

In this farce Bogart plays a blinder, comical to some degree, pulled off masterly by a class actor. Was this Bogart showing another side to the audiences in the future, saying I am no hard man. In fact in this film he sings, alongside Aldo Ray and Peter Ustinov. Who also put in some cracking performances. Basil Rathbone is the charcter you love to hate, it is almost a pantomime in parts. Played to in my case an audience of one. But still loved every moment.

Here's looking at you kid.

This 1955 film is one of the last pictures in legendary Bogart's carrer. Directed by "Casablanca Man" Michael Curtiz, one of the best directors of the golden age of Hollywood this is a very entertaining comedy! With a great cast lead by Bogart youll have the oportunity to see Bogart in a rare comic role and in widescreen and technicolor!!! The dvd edition is very basic but with a good quality print and transfer this is probably the only chance to have this almost forgoten film in your collection. Buy it!

An Absolute Joy! 14 Feb 2007
By David Lusher TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
This is a wonderful little Christmas film, with super performances by Humphrey Bogart, a youthful Peter Ustinov, and Aldo Ray. Basil Rathbone plays the baddie with his usual high quality. However, the star of the show is the delightful Leo G Carroll. The comedy is understated; subtle at times (particularly with Ustinov), but Carroll as the bemused, innocent and trusting shopkeeper in the hands of three convicts with hearts of gold is a real treat. A must buy!

Classic Comedy
We had not seen this film for more than 30 years and had forgotten how funny it is. Not huge belly laughs, just very, very good fun.

We're No Angels
Bogart does comedy and it is brilliant. Sharp interplay between the main characters gives us some lovely moments. This is one to cheer you up when you feel down.
