The Welsh are famous for many things, and our love of giving people odd and often strange nicknames is one of them.

Well you try living somewhere where everyone is Jones, Evans, Davies, Owens, Etc. You need to add descriptions to those names, such as Jones the Goat, Davies 9months, etc,

And the Welsh have made it into an artform.

Les has spent 40 years collecting weird and interesting nicknames and has shared a lot of them in this book. I found it extra interesting since the village where i grew up features heavily in this book (We are a strange and famous lot).

It was especially nice to see old school friends listed, especially when I could remember when the names were invented.

Its a fast and fun read.

A gem of a book. So true and yet humorous. Hopefully Les Chamberlain will continue looking for more of these nicknames which can still be found all over Wales. Its part of our culture. Will Bara delivered bread from a bakery. He won a large amount on the football pools and was renamed Will Upper Crust.
