This musical is loosely based upon the career of the British "Forces' Sweetheart" Vera Lynn, a popular BBC radio singer who spent much time entertaining the troops in London during World War II. It all begins when she falls in love with a Scottish soldier who breaks her heart when he jilts her in favour of her best friend. Following the break up, she decides to leave London and spend her time entertaining troops all over Europe.
Product Description
Forces Sweetheart Vera Lynn stars in this patriotic wartime British musical. Humble chorus line dancer Peggy Brown (Vera Lynn) has no ambition to be a singer - but fate has other plans. After entertaining a nervous theatre crowd with a sing along during an air raid, Peggy is discovered by accident by the BBC when her composer friend Bruce (Ronald Ward) submits a song.
From then on, the sky is the limit. Peggy gets her own radio show and is the toast of the BBC - but she proves unlucky in love when the soldier she hopes loves her (Donald Gray) falls for her bet friend Ruth (Patricia Roc) instead...
An unashamed star vehicle for Vera Lynn, WE'LL MEET AGAIN also boasts the unmistakable sound of Geraldo & His Orchestra, who perform 'You Never Knew' and support Vera Lynn on 'After The Rain'. The film also includes the songs 'Be Like The Kettle And Sing', 'Ave Maria' and 'All The World Sings A Lullaby' - as well as priceless footage of Vera Lynn performing 'I'm Yours Sincerely' and 'We'll Meet Again' before British Servicemen.
