5.0 out of 5 stars I'm in love! 25 May 2011
Format:Hardcover
I heard so many great things about the Summer I Turned Pretty series, i read the 1st two books in 2 days and i had to re-read them again as i waited for this one to be sent! Out of all the books i have read this hands down has to be my favourite! Even when i wasn't reading it i was constantly thinking about the story and the characters. Although it is based on teen love it also deals with death and family issues, i even found myself crying at parts! It's an amazing ending to an amazing books series, i would highly encourage anyone to read it and i promise you that you will fall in love with it the way i did! I can't wait to see the next novels by Jenny Han!

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful finish to the Summer series 28 July 2011
Format:Hardcover
*Spoiler Free*

Wow wow wow wow wow!!! This was amazing. Oh man the ending, it was beautiful but so sad! This was sort of a bittersweet book for me, because whoever Belly picked would mean someone would be heart-broken. I think I knew deep down who she would choose but Jenny Han had me guessing 'til the very last chapter.

Like its predecessor, this book kept me up until the wee hours of the night *cough* 4am *cough*. It was just spectacular. Belly had certainly grown up and unlike previously she was not annoying or frustrating, her decisions were a lot more measured and mature. It was nice to see her grow as a person. This time the book had Conrad's perspective in addition to Belly's and it was amazing to see his feelings. I always found him so mysterious and quite cold to be frank, but in this book we learn why he says certain things and acts a certain way, especially around Belly. This last book made me really feel as if I had grown up with the characters, as you can really see them mature. And the actual storyline was, at its core, who Belly truly loved more; Jeremiah or Conrad. But, it was so much more complicated than that, with so many more feelings and emotions and it just felt so real. It was amazing.

I also really loved Belly and Taylor's friendship. And Steven, Belly's brother was so cute and despite Belly's belief that he always preferred Jeremiah and Conrad, he was her brother at the end of the day. You could tell he really loved her. And this is what these books are about, love. Every kind of it.

THE VERDICT
5 stars - A beautiful finish to the Summer series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm 9 July 2011
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I loved this series from the moment i picked up 'The Summer i Turned Pretty' and waited patiently for the second in the series to come out. When i got that one i read it in a day and i just couldn't wait for the final book to come out and so i bought it online instead of waiting for it to come into my bookstore.

However, i was slightly disappointed by this book!

Yes i know i have given it four stars but that alone is for the series itself and for the ending. It just didn't live up to the previous two and to be honest i felt like the characters yo-yoed to much and didn't stay true to themselves. Conrad it seemed had a split personality who went from being the dream guy in book one, to someone i strongly disliked in book two back to a soppy love struck guy again. Jeremiah had the biggest change of character, going from Belly's best friend who he has loved for years to a complete jerk and i just couldn't comprehend it.
I would still recommend reading it if even for closure on the series and to give it some credit i did like the way it all turned out in the end but i still preferred the previous two books and feel they display Jenny Hans best work!

3.0 out of 5 stars The right ending; the wrong way to get there 25 Oct 2012
By Spenner
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It was always going to be hard for Jenny Han to write a really brilliant ending to this trilogy. In THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY she created the most wonderful love triangle - two brothers who were so different, and Belly, the touching, slightly awkward heroine who was brave when she needed to be. Resolving it has made for some unfortunate character development that, as other reviews mention, doesn't seem fair to the characters I loved in the first book. There is literally no reason for Belly to choose one of the brothers over the other; she would have to be insane to pick one of them and mad to turn the other down. For me, having the choice made so simple was a problem because it made the story drag while you waited for the situation to be resolved. I do think though that if they had stayed as they are in the first book, it would have been impossible for Belly to pick one without making herself very unpopular with readers.

In this book, Belly is very passive, to the point of being dim, and seems to have lost all self-knowledge as she's got older. Jeremiah is irritating and so (in a different way) is Conrad, as Han reworks what happened in IT'S NOT SUMMER WITHOUT YOU to make sense in the light of what's happening in this book. While I like her writing immensely, I think her heart wasn't in this book. I felt she was bored with the characters and struggled to make a thin story reach the extent she was aiming for. The world of Cousins is so vivid and atmospheric, but revisiting it this time we hear very little about it, or about summer, and a lot about stationery. The last scene resolves everything, but it's an impression more than a scene - a moment in time that is truly lovely, but not enough.
