Amazon Review

Prepare to be absolutely charmed by Jennifer Crusie's riotous tale of two slightly twisted sisters and a town chock-full of hunks, coots and petty politics in Welcome to Temptation.

Sophie and Amy Dempsey are just two wedding filmers trying to hop to the next level of their careers when they agree to produce a documentary of ageing film star Clea Whipple's return to her hometown of Temptation, Ohio. And when the local mayor, Phin Tucker, and the police chief, Wes Mazur, proffer themselves as willing subjects for quick flings, Sophie and Amy aren't the type to object. But things are never easy in rural Ohio, and what starts off as an esoteric art film project soon evolves into potential porn--and that's just the relationships, let alone the documentary. Clea's husband Zane turns belly-up, the race for mayor turns dirty and Sophie and Phin turn on the heat full steam.

With hot sex, clever characters and Crusie's trademark wit, Welcome to Temptation will keep your eyes glued to the page and your stomach aching with laughter. --Nancy R.E. O'Brien

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent & very witty 5 Feb 2006
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Probably the best of all Jennifer Cruise's books. An attractive and witty central couple and amusing side characters.

Sophie Dempsey is the only 'normal' one in a family of likable and charming con artists. She is the 'mothering/nuturing' figure in the family, who really just wants to settle down in one place with a home and family. However, for the sake of her sister's hope of Hollywood, Sophie finds herself in Temptation, Ohio to make a come-back film for ageing former porn star Clea Whipple, who was born in Temptation and owns a farm there.

Enter Temptation's mayor, Phineas T Tucker, who's town council have just voted in an anti porn law and whose mother is trying to desperately marry him off to the too young Rachel Garvey of the "excellent legs".

Phin is the handsome, well-dressed epitany of every "glossy frat boy" who ever snubbed Sophie, and she's just the type of woman his father warned him about. So the scene is set for a witty battle of the sexes, plus one of the townsfolk is trying to bump Sophie off. Add Sophie's, con man brother, her controlling fiance, Phin's snobby, wealthy mother and his young daughter, Rachel Garvey and her parents and the sexy conniving Clea and her husband, plus a dead body and plenty of sex and you have an entertaining, amusing read. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very funny and romantic 29 Aug 2001

This book is great, unputdownable - I read it in one day and then read it again the next. The characters are funny, the supporting characters not least so. Sophie and Phin are the right side of believable and their story is gutsy, romantic and sexy. I'll definitely be reading more books by Jennifer Crusie.

I really liked this book - I think it is better by far than her last two books and worth the hardback price.

I loved the characters of the hero and heroine - I ended up fancying the Mayor myself and especially liked the devious Dempseys and the 5 rules to get people to do what you want.

I just wish now that we could have a sequel as I really liked all the nutty characters living in Temptation and would like to see how Sophie dealt with them when she became Mayor.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Keeper
This is a light-hearted and funny romantic suspense novel, high on the romance and low on the suspense. I'd recommend it if you like Buffy-style humour and aren't a prude. Read more
