Amazon Review

Prepare to be absolutely charmed by Jennifer Crusie's riotous tale of two slightly twisted sisters and a town chock-full of hunks, coots and petty politics in Welcome to Temptation.

Sophie and Amy Dempsey are just two wedding filmers trying to hop to the next level of their careers when they agree to produce a documentary of ageing film star Clea Whipple's return to her hometown of Temptation, Ohio. And when the local mayor, Phin Tucker, and the police chief, Wes Mazur, proffer themselves as willing subjects for quick flings, Sophie and Amy aren't the type to object. But things are never easy in rural Ohio, and what starts off as an esoteric art film project soon evolves into potential porn--and that's just the relationships, let alone the documentary. Clea's husband Zane turns belly-up, the race for mayor turns dirty and Sophie and Phin turn on the heat full steam.

With hot sex, clever characters and Crusie's trademark wit, Welcome to Temptation will keep your eyes glued to the page and your stomach aching with laughter. --Nancy R.E. O'Brien --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The narrative thread of this book is a porn movie. No kidding. I mean, can you go any less romantic than this?
Minus 2 Stars.

The love story between the two protagonist is more a physical story where they say “F-word me” to each other most of the time, which leads to many cheap scenes I could have lived better without. It wasn’t very romantic, maybe more real? Could be, but I don’t think so, it was really exaggerated on the physical attraction and the intimate scenes were too many, over the top, and overstated.
Minus 1 star.

The sister is clingy, selfish, and lies a lot… she annoyed me too much.
Minus 1 star.

At about 60% of the book there’s a crime mystery to solve that is the only thing that saved this book from ending up on the not-to-read-shelf, I still would not suggest it, but I will not ban it to the dreaded shelf. The mystery is interesting, funny in its many facets, and gives a sprint to the book.
Plus 1 star.

The ending is happy and cheesy, just how I like it.
Plus 1 star.

Little spoiler here, skip if you don’t want to know. However, gets the book minus 1 stars.

The side story of Rachel, a twenty-years-old good girl that wants to escape the small town, is simply creepy. The author’s idea of her happy ending is to have her move to L.A. with forty-five-years-old king of porn Leo, to start producing soft porn movies. Really?!

Probably the best of all Jennifer Cruise's books. An attractive and witty central couple and amusing side characters.
Sophie Dempsey is the only 'normal' one in a family of likable and charming con artists. She is the 'mothering/nuturing' figure in the family, who really just wants to settle down in one place with a home and family. However, for the sake of her sister's hope of Hollywood, Sophie finds herself in Temptation, Ohio to make a come-back film for ageing former porn star Clea Whipple, who was born in Temptation and owns a farm there.
Enter Temptation's mayor, Phineas T Tucker, who's town council have just voted in an anti porn law and whose mother is trying to desperately marry him off to the too young Rachel Garvey of the "excellent legs".
Phin is the handsome, well-dressed epitany of every "glossy frat boy" who ever snubbed Sophie, and she's just the type of woman his father warned him about. So the scene is set for a witty battle of the sexes, plus one of the townsfolk is trying to bump Sophie off. Add Sophie's, con man brother, her controlling fiance, Phin's snobby, wealthy mother and his young daughter, Rachel Garvey and her parents and the sexy conniving Clea and her husband, plus a dead body and plenty of sex and you have an entertaining, amusing read. Enjoy!

I really liked this book - I think it is better by far than her last two books and worth the hardback price.
I loved the characters of the hero and heroine - I ended up fancying the Mayor myself and especially liked the devious Dempseys and the 5 rules to get people to do what you want.
I just wish now that we could have a sequel as I really liked all the nutty characters living in Temptation and would like to see how Sophie dealt with them when she became Mayor.

This book is great, unputdownable - I read it in one day and then read it again the next. The characters are funny, the supporting characters not least so. Sophie and Phin are the right side of believable and their story is gutsy, romantic and sexy. I'll definitely be reading more books by Jennifer Crusie.

I absolutely loved this book. It's really great quality chick-lit, fantastic characters, loads of tension in the plot, and a real page turner. I started reading it yesterday evening and stayed up half the night to finish it! The small town, gossipy atmosphere of Temptation is really vividly portrayed and there is plenty to enjoy besides the sizzling affair between Sophie and Phin. I defy any woman to read this and not fall a little in love with Phin - he's wonderful!

Format: Paperback
A witty, entertaining romantic comedy filled with warm, memorable characters who are much more fun to read about than the usual whingeing thirty somethings thrust upon readers by UK 'chic-lit' authors.
The sex scenes absolutely sizzle off the page and expertly walk the thin line. Highly erotic, but never pornographic. Readers who have an aversion to the 'F' word might find the language a little strong on occasion as the aforementioned is used rather a lot. It didn't bother me too much. What did irritate me was the heroine's pulse which had an annoyingly repetitve habit of 'kicking up' every few pages. Seems to be a favourite phrase of the author's. However, that's really just nitpicking. I am sold on Jennifer Cruisie and will buy her other books. Usually modern romantic comedies leave me feeling bored and once I've read one, I have to abandon the genre for at least 6 months to recover. (last happened to me with Marian Keyes. I loved Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married, but when I came to the end, that was it for a long while!) With Cruisie, however, I'm thirsting for more.

The only issue with this writer is that she can be repetitive. Once you've read one of her books, you've read all of them. It's the typical facade of the main characters pretending they dislike each other and of course, the woman must have a plump lip (the last book also has a female protagonist who the male loved for her lip) which doesn't work for me, because not all men are fixated on lips.

The characters are nice and it was a good read. It's good to have a main female who isn't squeaky clean (the soft porn she's writing) which also doubles up as a good excuse to get intimate with Phin.
