4.0 out of 5 stars Cute, funny, but perhaps a bit overlong. 20 April 2012
Format:DVD
I was lucky enough to watch this film with subtitles before its original release in Japan, and I'm delighted that it's seeing an international release. In short, it's a story about five children who rescue a dog, only to find out that the dog's an alien (cue horrified looks from said children/fainting). The plot evolves from there as the dog takes them on a trip into space. In general the plot's amusing and fairly easy to follow; but it suffers from being overlong, which is the film's main problem, and children might have trouble following it and getting some of the references (one of the characters pretending to be a magical girl before she goes into a fight, for example). Otherwise, the animation is gorgeous, the character designs wonderful, and overall it's a film I'd rate highly and look forward to buying when it comes out. NB this is only talking about the subbed version, though; I can't comment on the quality or otherwise of the dubbed version.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful family viewing 8 Aug 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is an Anime film and opens with a couple of aliens fighting it out through a forest at night and one is injured. It is summer holiday and a number of children all go camping in an old school building. During a baseball game they go searching for a lost ball and come across the injured alien who it turns out is a dog that can speak who is called Pochi whom has been sent to earth to search for the most prized substance in the universe that is only found on earth. For their help in helping him recover from his injuries he agrees to take them anywhere they want so they choose the moon. Due to an accident of his making they are denied re-entry to earth so must go the long way round to get back.

Now starts a visually brilliant story of 5 children taken on a breathtaking journey through the universe that also takes them to the greatest show in the universe full of acrobats and actors among other visually brilliant aliens. there is also a plot to kidnap the children as they are discovered to have this precious substance in abundance. I am not going to spoil it by telling you what it is but the alien would be abductors are at best inept which is really funny to see. The film mixes wondrous scenes of visual awe with a dash of tension of villains wanting this most precious substance that one of the children have on them without knowing it

Without giving too mush away it is a Beautiful and visually stunning film with artwork and Animation that is in abundance in this lovely captivating film that is for all the family and it will make you wish you could go visit all these gorgeous places and see all the aliens for real.

A real feel good film that will make you smile for sure

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical and Sweet 26 Mar 2013
Format:DVD
I love this movie, it's one of the first anime films since ghibli that i have to say i have really enjoyed! I did find that the film was slightly long in some parts, but it made up for it. Me and my fiance truly enjoyed it and though it is pretty expensive for a anime film, it's well worth the money!
