* Along with the "Welcome Home" album in its entirety, this volume also features four rare non-album OKeh 45s and - for the delight of Walter obsessives everywhere - three tracks that have never been heard publicly since being committed to tape 39 years ago.
* The inevitable wealth of label shots is complemented by a sleeve note that explores Walter's recordings on a session-by-session basis.
* For many Walter Jackson is the epitome of mid-60s Chicago soul. His recordings were supervised by the city's greatest producer, Carl Davis, and repertoire was provided by Curtis Mayfield, Van McCoy, Chip Taylor, Randy Newman and Jimmy Radcliffe. With these kind of names on board it's pretty hard to go wrong.

soul?,
By Ian (, Dorset United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Welcome Home: the Okeh Recordings Vol.2 (Audio CD)
Opening tracks on this cd are not my cup of tea, slow crooning with overpowering strings, moon river...no thanks, but thankfully things improve towards the end of the disc. I bought this cd blind because of my love for soul music, there are perhaps 5 tracks that save the day, 3 that are essential listening. Make no mistake this guy has a wonderful voice. Buy it if like me you have an insatiable appetite for soul from the sixties.

A Special Voice,

Walter Jackson had one of the most distinctive voices I ever heard. He made it sound so easy until you tried to do what he did with a song. This is some serious kick back and listen stuff. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful:

FOR THOSE LUCKY ENOUGH TO OWN A COPY OF BILLY STEWART'S 'UNBELIEVABLE' ALBUM WILL GO NUTS BEHIND THIS ALBUM THAT WOULD RANK #2!,

One word that come to mind about this album....DAMN!!! The album opens with "My Funny Valentine", also features Billboard Charted Singles: "Suddenly I'm All Alone" (#13), and "Welcome Home" (#15), Plus the Album favorite is: "Imagination". This CD contains the 'Original' 12 Track Album, PLUS 7 (Seven) Bonus Tracks! Standouts among those are: "A Cold, Cold Winter" (A Rare B-Side Single only), and the unreleased "The Folks Who Live On The Hill". Of the Bonus Tracks a few Out-Of-Place Uptempo cuts that kinda throws the flow outta place...Just a little, but remember THESE ARE BONUS TRACKS! (You Gotta give the company credit for including them, let alone even finding these lost gems!). Don't get gun-shy because of the healty price tag...This is a Import...It's worth every penny you'll shell out for this, and NO you won't find this classic in the cheap section at your local Retail Outlet or On-Line Store for $4.00 or $6.00 because those who have the 'Original' Vinyl edtion of this ain't parting with it for a few dollars...I wait while you check around.........Did I prove my point??? Real simple....BUY IT!!! Especially if you are a lover of Strings, Powerful Arrangements, and just some straight out good singing!!!Now if Ace Records can give Walter Jackson this kind of treatment of his Okeh recordings can you imagine what they could do with Major Lance's Okeh recordings (Yeah, Sony released a Double Disc in the U.S., But it was missing several Tracks from "The Monkey Time" album as well as serveral B-Side Singles. They (Ace Records) could do wonders with Junior Parker (Duke recordings). Junior Parker's story is almost like the Major Lance? ACE RECORDS...ARE YOU READING THIS? NOTE: Someone gave this 1 (One) star, Their Review (COMMENTS) had NOTHING to do with the quality of this album!!! This had something to do with them NOT getting the Compact Discs they ordered...Amazon should REMOVE this, because again...IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS ALBUM!!! 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful:
