5.0 out of 5 stars Deluxe? You're telling me., 24 Aug 2006
By
This review is from: Weezer: Deluxe Edition (Blue Album) (Audio CD)
I feel that everything that I can say about the original album has already been said in my previous review of it. But I feel I should also review this version because, just for once, it's worth forking out for the deluxe edition.

The second disc of this package could be sold as an excellent 'b-sides and rarities' collection on its own. The quality is very high throughout, and far from tarnishing the original album, you find yourself adding 'Jamie' and 'Suzanne' to the tracklisting. 'Mykel And Carli' is almost as good, 'My Evalyne' is interesting if nothing else, but best of all are the Kitchen Tape demos.

These live recordings of songs which ended up on the album are fascinating insights into the band as a raw garage group, as well as what the songs used to be like before they were put down on the album.

This additional deluxe disc is worth every extra penny you spend on it. Every song here is worth having and listening to; remember them this way, rather than for their 21st Century exploits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deluxe indeed, 5 Jun 2004
This review is from: Weezer: Deluxe Edition (Blue Album) (Audio CD)
Here is one of those special edition re-releases that is worth buying if your a fan and even if your not the sheer amount of catchy, angsty yet rocking tunes will keep you humming along for days after. The Blue album is one of the bands best - probably the best although if you want to bring the Pinkerton controversy up then you be hard pushed to choose between them. The rarities and b-sides on the second CD really let you into the origins of the band that otherwise might be obscured - unless you were lucky enough to find all the singles and rare compilations that spawned these songs, like me you will only have seen their names and wondered what they sound like. Obvious highlights are Mykel & Carli, Susanne and Jamie, but with the live and demo versions of several other songs the bonus material is all worth listening to, especially the material written buy Pat Wilson (drummer) who penned some of the tracks from the early years. With the little insert booklet telling of the bands history and the neat overall design of the deluxe edition this is a cool little extra to treat yourself too. Even if your not a fan this is one of the great albums from the first half of the 90's whilst nirvana still ruled the roost of angst - Weezer were doing it from the geeky sidelines, with more subtlety. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, 13 May 2004
This review is from: Weezer: Deluxe Edition (Blue Album) (Audio CD)
All I can say is "thank god for weezer!" they show on this deluxe edition of thier 1994 debut album that there are still bands out there that can make classic albums. the lyrics, the melodies, the drums, the rifts, everything is stunning.
The first disc is a reminder of the sheer brilliance of thier debut album, its still as crisp and important now and well be for a long time to come.
The Second disc is full of brilliant live performances, unreleased tracks and b-sides, such as "Lullaby for Wayne", "Susanne", "Mykel and Carli"
and "Jamie" all of which are better then what the vast majority of bands have ever produced.

Roll on Pinkerton - The deluxe edition!
