Weekend World, while epitomising the E-Z Rollers style of drum and bass sounds that quite literally 'roll along', is also a departure from their accustomed tone of laid-back, sometimes almost lullaby tunes that wrap you up in a downy blanket of blissful breaks. They demonstrate with flair their ability to provide a completely versatile sound, adapting admirably to the environment of live performing with the monumental Tough at the Top and the anthem-status Walk This Land. In Sound Clash and Focus you are whisked on a journey from mellow beginnings through to completely unexpected breaks consisting of raw, almost unfinished sounds that seem to represent the framework of the song as a whole, leading to climaxes involving the finest basslines this side of christendom, overlays to be savoured and percussion sections that underpin the track with a sensational rhythm. These odysseys of sound serve to offset the more traditional vibe of tunes like Weekend World, Retro and Funked Up Flava's; tunes that are the essential E-Z Rollers, with the lyrically divine sound of their capable vocalist mixing with the expertly devised rhythm structure and killer basslines. In short, Weekend World shows that E-Z Rollers practise what a lot of people preach: the ability to take from the old and mix with the new. They jealously guard the core of their original style but at the same time show they have many more tricks up their collective sleeve than you would expect. And they're not a collective that bears comparison, as the only purveyors of that inimitable rolling bassline which is their eternal trademark.

Saw them play live and decided I had to own their music. Bought 2 albums and they're both amazing, totally different, but amazing. This is the more energetic of the 2, and always manages to put me in a good mood. Definately 5 out of 5!

This is a fabulous album and a good introduction to the gentler side of drum'n'bass. It is sort of drum'n'bass meets Massive Attack to begin with but builds into some banging tunes about half way through. If you want to turn some reluctant body onto drum'n'bass without scaring them off this is the album. The vocals are good, a novelty in d'n'b and this album will keep your feet moving and put a smile on your face.
