Although very different from his earlier work, this is a fine novel from the finest Scottish writer of our generation.
Well worth reading!

Disspointing 7 April 2008
Format:Paperback
Nothing really happens in this book at all and you think something dramatic is going to happen at the end. Nope! It doesn't even finished will a full stop. The last word is "when " Like that makes sense. For someone who is one of the best Scottish writers of our age it's a real paper-weight.. FULL STOP!!

McIlvanney's Weekend 6 July 2010
By John Crumlin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Wm McIlvanney's books are some of my favourites. This was perhaps no one of his best (not up to his Laidlaw series), but still an enjoyable read.
