Good for Beginners,

This book is very basic and probably would not be a good purchase for an experienced crocheter. Ideal for a beginner, the stitches are easy to follow, with clear full colour illustrations . You can crochet most of the things in the book in a weekend. The downside is that most of the garments are aimed at older babies over 3 months.

Hi this is a beautiful book by Sue Whiting...lovely collection of baby clothes from jumpers, cardigans, hat, gloves, mittens, all in one, pram blanket and some toys to crochet(boy and girl dolls and puppy pram string as well as a rabbit) worth buying!! :)

Somewhat dated and conventional designs, but practical,

I bought this book recently thinking the publishing date (2008) would mean fairly modern, contemporary designs using similarly modern 'Debbie Bliss' type yarns. However, I unfortunately did judge the book by its cover, and I was wrong! I am sure this is a very practical book (with instructions in the first section on how to crochet, so ideal for a beginner like myself) but the outfits and suggested yarns for most items seem quite 1980's to me- the kind of thing my grandmother insisted on making us as kids (I'm 39!!) I guess you could use your imagination and select more interesting yarns to use, but I still think I'll be donating this one straight to Oxfam... even the doll patterns look old. Oh- and I know it says 'babies', but I always assume baby means up to 24 months and as I am the mother of a 11 month old wearing anything from 12-24 month sized clothing, when I discovered patterns only go up to 12-18 months I was disappointed.
Fortunately I also bought Crochet Designs for Girls and Boys by Lucinda Guy, and although the patterns start from age 2-3 years, I'm a beginner so it'll probably take me that long! The toys are much cuter and contemporary though- a more adventurous book and designer. Crochet Designs for Girls and Boys
