Review

"The narrative gallops along with humorous scenes and great one-liners...and you won't be able to stop reading until you find out how all the loose ends tie up." (Daily Mail)

"I let out a huge, embarrassing honk of laughter on the tube reading Wedding Night. And then, two stops later, I did it again. This is why Sophie Kinsella is beloved by millions - her books are properly mood-altering. Funny, fast and farcical. I loved it." (JoJo Moyes)

"The most hilarious, breathless romp? imaginable You'll laugh and gasp on every page" (Jenny Colgan)

"This witty tale of misunderstandings and misplaced feelings will tickle your fancy. Kinsella traces Lottie's circuitous pursuit of her elusive fairytale ending with her signature charm and humour." (The Lady)

"Reading this comedy of errors is so much fun that it feels like a lovely treat. This funny, fast-moving novel comes highly recommended." (Daily Mail) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wedding Night you'll never forget! 23 April 2013
By Leah Graham TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Wedding Night is the first Kinsella novel to split the narration. Instead of just being from the point of view of one character as with the rest of her novels, Wedding Night is told from the viewpoint of two sisters, Fliss and Lottie. Lottie thought she had found the man of her dreams and is convinced he's about to propose, and when he doesn't, she realises he doesn't want what she wants and they break up. When old flame Ben comes back into Lottie's life and reminds them of their pact to get married if they were both still un-wed at 30 (or 33!), Lottie jumps at the chance. Her sister, Fliss, however, couldn't think of anything more horrific. Marrying someone you haven't seen for 15 years? She knows what Lottie is like after a break-up and suspects this is Lottie's mad-cap reaction to the break-up and will stop at nothing to stop this wedding going ahead, knowing first hand what divorce is like and how awful it can be. When Lottie and Ben head off on honeymoon, Fliss isn't far behind, but can she stop Lottie and Ben before they make the biggest mistake of their life or is Fliss about to make the biggest mistake of her life in chasing them down?

I absolutely loved Wedding Night! The dual narration was awesome at letting us follow each sister, as Lottie and Ben try to consummate their marriage and as Fliss does everything in her power to stop that happening, whilst chasing them down to their Greek honeymoon in Ikonos. I found myself alternatively rooting for Lottie and rooting for Fliss, but mostly, I was rooting for Fliss if only because her ways of stopping Lottie were inventive, and that's being mild! What Lottie and Ben go through in Ikonos seems as if it's come straight out of a Carry On film and it was brilliant. Utterly brilliant.

2.0 out of 5 stars I didn't quite feel it 7 Jun 2013
Format:Hardcover
I usually love, love, love Sophie Kinsella's books, I couldn't put her last one (I've got your number) down and it was one of these books that make you feel really warm and happy inside. However I was really disappointed in this read. It just didn't make me laugh as her books typically do and it felt a bit like she was reheating one of her older stories. To much of the same old. I didn't feel warming up towards the characters either, Lottie seems just shallow and silly and her sister Fliss is boring. Hopefully the next one will be better again!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Pure Farce 19 May 2013
Format:Hardcover
Oh deary me. I absolutely adored the Shopaholic and Twenties Girl books, funny and sweet with good story lines. But this book was dull, and very silly, Ms Kinsella seems to have embraced pure farce. Some of it is too ludicrous to be funny. It was an effort to finish it, a bit of a yawnathon. I have given it two stars, however, as about 20% of the book is up to usual standards, but 80% is embarrassing and cringeworthy tosh.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sub par generic writing 27 Mar 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't know what's happened to Sophie Kinsella, aka Madeleine Wickham. Her books seem to have dumbed down to a level where I had to send this one back and I doubt I will purchase any more for the foreseeable future. It feels like she is aiming for a madcap comedy and the plot - impulsive couple get married and rush off on honeymoon while other characters rush after them to stop them consumating their relationship - lends itself to a great deal of slapstick, misunderstandings, embarrassing situations - none of which I actually found that funny. Maybe because we aren't living in a carefree madcap comedy era ...

Or maybe it was because the novel utterly lacks an emotional centre, someone for me to root for. Lottie irritated me from the start - Fliss started to seriously irritate me as the novel progressed, and I asked myself why on earth a high powered career woman would go to such ludicrous lengths to stop her adult sister from having sex on her wedding night? Lorcan is just a modern version of Mr Darcy and I had no doubt whatsoever how his and Fliss's story would end up. Though I sympathised with Ben and Lottie's frustration, it's clear they hardly know each other well enough to get married - however I certainly didn't root for her to get back with stuffed shirt Richard either. Was SK expecting the reader to root for romantic idiot Lottie to get back with a man who lived with her for three years and was still dithering about whether he wanted to marry her or not?

The novel tries far too hard to be funny and in the end I found it too irritating to read any further. The best bits by far are the descriptions of the romantic hotel resort and I found myself thinking I'd actually rather read about a normal couple having an uneventful honeymoon there!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 6 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found this book quite disappointing. I didn't really like the characters, I found them to be quite cringe worthy and unrealistic. The plot was too far fetched and I felt myself skipping pages to get to the more interesting bits. To be honest I found it a bit of a chore to read.
I used to be a Sophie Kinsella fan, but not so much anymore.
