Biography

In the 80s Duran Duran were the most successful new romantic band of the “second British Invasion”, helped by their stylish and sexually charged videos which received heavy play on MTV.

Formed in 1978 by John Taylor (bass) and Nick Rhodes (keyboards) in Birmingham, England, their most successful line-up also included Simon Le Bon (vocals), Andy Taylor (guitar) and Roger Taylor (drums). Between 1980… Read more in Amazon's Duran Duran Store

Amazon.co.uk Review

The post-Notorious Duran Duran are a slightly odd proposition: neither disappearing down the plughole like Bros or New Kids On The Block, but never quite managing the commercial or critical success of a George Michael. The Wedding Album contains a number of typically Serious Artiste tricks: a collaboration with someone obscure and trendy (Milton Nascimento), a cover of something undeniably classic and credible (the Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale") and a slightly embarrassing stab at whatever was the new(ish) movement of the time (the grunge-y "Too Much Information"). However, on the plus side, they do it better than most and the album contains both singles ("Come Undone" and in particular the top five hit "Ordinary World") and album tracks ("Love Voodoo") that, ostentatiously "adult" or not, are on a par with the glory days of "Rio" or "Save A Prayer". --Ronita Dutta

By 1993, it really was make or break for Duran Duran.
Fortunately, this album contains some of Duran's best work, lead single "Ordinary World" was a top ten hit on both sides of the Atlantic, with it's follow up single "Come Undone" equally sucessful.
They are both great pop/rock songs, and it wouldn't be unfair to say that those two songs alone pretty much kept Duran Duran alive in the 90's.
Duran found their feet again with this, it brought them a new generation of fans keen to explore the band for the first time, a result commerically also that sold over 6 million copies sold worldwide.
Musically, "The Wedding Album" presents Duran as a more mature band, their sound has evolved to a modern Alternative Rock band, it's pleasant listening.
It's not quite five stars, but Duran Duran were back in 1993, and almost as good as their early 80's heyday.

I was pleasantly surprised by the high standard of music in this album. It matches the high quality of music which Duran duran were able to churn out continuously in the 1980s. Some of the songs are best forgotten but on a whole, it is a step forward for them into the dreadful music of the 1990s. This was a promising album for them and it was a shame that they were unable to capitalise on this success in recent years (probably due to the departure of John Taylor). Come on Duran Duran, this is the new millennium and I hope that they release some more material like this soon.

This gets 5 stars simply because of Ordinary World. Worth buying just for this most beautiful & sublimely crafted song. Gets me every time.
