"An exciting Highland adventure with sensual and compelling romance."—Amanda Forester, author of True Highland Spirit on Temptation in a Kilt

She Always Wanted to be One of the Boys...

Sybella would do anything to prove she's just as valuable to the MacKenzie clan as her brother is. She'd go on any hunt, take any dare. But her father has a different sort of mission in mind: marriage. It's simple, he explains. All she has to do is marry Alexander MacDonell and report back on his family's secrets. It will be easy, he says, as long as she doesn't do anything fall in love.

Until She Got a Man...

As laird of the McDonell's, Alex has a duty to produce an heir. It's a duty he won't mind with the lovely Ella as his wife—even if she is one of the dreaded MacKenzies. He's wooed and won many ladies, but Ella is a challenge like no other. He can tell she's holding something back. But not for long. Because inch by inch, he plans to expose everything she's been hiding and claim the ultimate prize: her heart.

"Highland romance at its best, loaded with likeable characters and an engaging plot. To Wed a Wicked Highlander is another not-to-be-missed book from Victoria Roberts."—Night Owl Romance Reviews, Top Pick

TO WED A WICKED HIGHLANDER is the third storyline in Victoria Roberts' Bad Boys of the Highland historical romance series. I was first introduced to this particular series through a giveaway of Temptation in a Kilt and I have loved every storyline in the series. Victoria pulls the reader into a world of Highland warriors, lovers and family betrayal. You will laugh and cry and, your heart will break for the men and women from the Highlands of Scotland.

To Wed a Wicked Highlander focuses on Sybella MacKenzie and her arranged marriage to Laird Alexander MacDonnell. The MacDonell and the MacKenzie clans have been at war for years and with this marriage, it is hoped that the bad blood between the two families can be forgotten. But much to Sybella's surprise she is a pawn in a much larger game that will find she and her new husband the target of an assassin's arrow. And to complicate matters, Sybella will discover that someone close is hoping to kill the Laird and his new wife.

The relationship between Sybella and Alexander is one that started years earlier when both were but teenagers. Fast forward five years and Sybella finds herself betrothed to Laird Alexander in exchange for what she believes is a peaceful resolution to war between the clans. Alexander is a man of experience when it comes to the bedroom and he must take his time with his new wife. But it is only a matter of days before betrayal and heartbreak will find Sybella on the run and into the bosom of a not so welcoming family.

Several of the previous storyline characters are welcomed back to give the storyline a cohesive feeling to the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Had its ups and downs 21 Sep 2013

I've read the other 2 books this series, I really liked Temptation in a Kilt, and wasn't crazy about X Marks the Scot.

The h is given in marriage to the H supposedly to bring peace between their clans. Meanwhile the h's family want her to get the H to trust her so that she can recover a 'seeing' stone that was taken by the H's clan years before. As time goes on the h falls for the H and feels guilty about betraying him. There are attempts on the h's life and plenty of other intrigues.

Basically I felt the story was a bit rushed in places, like I really wasn't convinced that the h was in love with the H when she said she was. He hadn't done anything wonderful at that point and actually hadn't shared her bed for that week. She'd been thinking at that point that he wasn't romantic and missed contact with him. The fact that the h wasn't honest and didn't tell the H what the story was, wasn't credible. She knew it was wrong by that stage but still thought that by finding the stone, she could protect the H.

If there is one thing that kills me in a book it's when the H hurls accusations at the h and calls her a wh**e. This is of course what happens in this book and I was already a bit frustrated with the storyline, so it was kind of the last straw for me. When the H finally comes for the h, she of course runs into his arms sobbing and tells him how much she loves him.

I think if this book had been 100 pages longer and certain aspects, like the falling in love part, had been developed properly, it could've been way better. The author could also have left out the few pages of the H taking leave of his mistress in a pretty carnal way, it didn't add to the story at all and I was scratching my head as to why it was included. I kept wondering if she'd come back to cause trouble later, but she didn't. I would also have liked to see some serious grovelling on the part of the H at the end and of course the h could also have done her share for keeping her secrets from him too.

Ah well, if you're not too fussy and are looking for a quick Scottish historical romance then you may like this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely NOT a 4 and 1/2 book! 15 Oct 2013

To Wed a Highlander by Victoria Roberts was not a 4 and 1/2 book. I bought this book because of its high rating; it did not deliver. Both characters were weak and not forceful; they did not spend much time together; the grandmother could not remember something VERY important, etc. PLEASE. Something was missing from this story and I never found it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wicked Cool!!!! 14 Nov 2013

I thoroughly enjoyed To We a Wicked Highlander. This book was fast paced and I loved the heroine and hero from the first pages. When Alex kisses Sybella by the waterfall, you just know that will be something he will never forget or for that matter, will Sybella. I loved the imagery of that scene. As the years pass, neither one can get the image of that first kiss out of their minds or hearts. It was the thing that fantasies are built upon.

I enjoyed the gentle spirit of the heroine in this story. She also showed great bravery when battling the choice between her clan and her husband. Sybella is a woman who is kind both children and the elderly and all who meet her love her from the start. It is hard to imagine Alex distrusting her, but when clans are notably on opposite ends, it is hard to imagine loyalty from even your closest ally/rival.

I really liked the descriptive narrative of scenes and I could envision the surroundings so vividly by Ms. Roberts' descriptions. I loved the development of all the characters from the little Lachlan to the aged but beloved Aunt. I loved the sense of family and fealty.

To say that Alex was wicked, though, surprised me. I found him to be wonderful, in an Alpha male sort of way. I would imagine the wickedness refers to his very sensual male presence, which of course could lead one to wicked wicked flights of fancy. I loved him.

All in all, I enjoyed this story immensely. I think you will too if you enjoy Highland Romances fraught with action, passion, and characters that are loveable and believable. Looking forward to reading the next in the Bad Boys of the Highlands series.
