already one of my favorite books!, 5 Feb 2005

I'm a graphics/web designer and this book is exactly what I've been looking for! No text whatsoever--it's a visual primer for those who already know how to design websites, but just need something to thumb through to get your creative juices flowing. The book itself is small, thick and hardbound; the glossy red cover makes it a great display piece as well!

Another Brain Food Book for designers. More bulk than substance, 26 Dec 2006

ONE OF MANY
If this is your first Brain Food book for webdesigners then it probably great. I was not so impressed, their are plenty of quality websites that give great selections of design etc. of websites. In addition there are quite a few books out there.
GERMAN LEANING
This book originated in Germany and thus there are a lot of German web sites in here. Plus almost all of the designs would appeal to the austere and humorless Germans, not to mention a huge amount of German web sites. If this were say, an Italian book, you would see a lot of stylistic sites. The German chosed examples tend to be about lines, boxes and Bahuas looking efforts.
STRUCTURE
The editors pretty much dumped the kitchen sink here, the only organization being sites grouped by genre, with the welcome addition of an experimental animation section, although the sites chosen are not the best examples, by a long way. Othe than the genre grouping you are left to take a stab at a site and see if 1) it is still live 2) it is any good 3) it is relevant to what you are looking for. There is no background explanation to the site, type of animation or any type of commentary. It is pretty much like pinning the tail on the donkey.
QUALITY
The quality of the web sites chosen is variable. None of the best seem to be there. There are many not working or just plain 404'ing. This is a problem that printed web design books have, that the web site does not.
One in six sites I tried was down completely, one if four did not work. One in three were in a language I did not understand. It's a mixed bag.
VALUE
Poor value. For all the background information you get (none), help (none) or assistance (none) you might as well go to the web. At least there you can click the link instead of having to type the URL in, plus it is free. So what if you want bedtime reading, this is good for pretty pictures, due to the small size of the book, squinting might be required.

100% Visual Overload!, 19 Mar 2006

Feierabend Verlag OHG's book "Websites 100% Loaded" is awesome.
This small, hard bound book (5 1/4" x 5 1/4") is loaded with 667 full-color pages of websites from around the world. Websites are broken up in chapters pertaining to a wide range of subjects like design - abstract sites, art & artists, animation & experimental sites, music, design - retro sites, photography, comics & illustrations, film, topography, fashion, personal presence, companies & institutions, design - minimalist, and portals & magazines. The index pages list URL addresses of all websites featured in the book.
As stated by another reviewer this book lacks text. It is solely a visual book worth a spot on your research bookshelf.
