I am really impressed with this software. I have been using McAfee for years now and have always been nervous of switching as it is supposedly very good. However, McAfee is very heavyweight and renound for eating resources and slowing your PC down. So when I got a nasty spyware virus (Virtumonde - my first one ever - I did not have anti-spyware with McAfee) I did some quick research and found that Webroot was one of the top rated anti-virus.

The software was very easy to install and with just one scan, my virus was completely removed. As a package, it is very neat, with all the options available in a well thought out "home" screen. This allows you to Sweep your PC (changing which drives/sections of you drives to scan), view your shields, schedule scans and (with version 6.0) selectively backup up to 1Gb of your PC on-line. The option to configure the anti-virus set up are also clearly set out and described, so you can, for example, automatically or manually download the latest virus definitions. The firewall is unobtrusive, occasionally identifying some unknown internet access, but after you have identified all your software that regularly checks for updates, you do not see those accesses again.

I did have a problem with version 5.8 of this Webroot software, with my XP Home PC running slowly and scans running very slowly too, BUT, the support from Webroot was first class. I emailed them and within a day they emailed me back with instructions and links on uninstalling the software completely, and then a link to the latest version 6.0.2. I have had no such issues again!

Negative points is that the PC is slightly slower starting up (for around a minute while I think it is scanning memory for viruses), but after that you hardly know it is there.

A very well thought out and effective anti-virus package. Top marks.

I have been using Webroot SpySweeper for over 5 years now Webroot Spysweeper v5, 1 User (PC) (currently on version 6.0.2) and use separate McAfee Internet Security software to provide Anti-Virus & Firewall McAfee Internet Security 2009 - 3 User (PC) or McAfee VirusScan Plus 2009 - 1 User (PC). McAfee is very good, easy to use and reliable, and is fully compatible with SpySweeper, but cannot alone be relied upon to provide protection against spyware.
I was once attacked by a very vicious spyware called "virtumonde" which was detected and immediately blocked by SpySweeper. However, when SpySweeper was instructed to remove it, it did so, but on re-booting and re-scanning, virtumonde was found again and quarantined. This repeated itself over and over, so I contacted Webroot Research for help (via their website) - they were fantastic & very efficient, quickly giving me access to special software & instructions on how to use it to remove this threat permanently. It worked first time and I have had no further problems. I went on the PC Adviser Forum and found that many others were having similar problems, but their anti-spyware programs wouldn't successfully remove this threat, so I recommended them to contact Webroot Research & use SpySweeper in the future. Having quality anti-spyware protection together with a reliable anti-virus & firewall seems very attractive and the Amazon price for this Webroot product is fantastic value for money. Well done Webroot and well done Amazon.
