the creators / suppliers of Maya dust would have you believe that this is an invaluable tool when it comes to camping or bushcraft but i just dont see it myself. It is expensive, doesnt light 'that' easily and can be replicated in so many ways with superior products. I have tried many different tinders on my trips and so far, tumble drier fluff or an unravelled tampon (seriously!) beats this hands down. The latter of the two also fits perfectly in your survival tin and stays waterproof in its little plastic wrapper. Save your money on this and instead use one of the above or if you insist of something natural, find yourself a silver birch tree, strip off a few bits of the outer bark (TAKE ONLY WHAT YOU NEED CAMPERS!) and use that. Just as effective but free.

Im a survivalist and a qualified mountain leader. seriously unimpressed. doesnt light easily or stay lit for long enough to be of any use. just buy a firesteel and vasaline, rub the vasaline on cotton bud and light. its perfect
I love maya wood as a tinder, this tin is perfect for it! Having the shavings ready means that I can store them in here and don't always have to carry the maya wood sticks with me - also meaning I have somewhere to store the shaving that I make myself. I think this is a must for any fire lighting kit!

Amazing results
Brought this for my uncle, sprinkled a little in the lid and lit with swedish firesteel in 3 strikes - amazing results that we didnt expect for another dozen or so strikes.
