4.0 out of 5 stars wire heaven 7 Jun 2012
By Helen K
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Although I have done wirework, I have never tried wire weaving. I have previously purchased Abbey Hook's Wire jewellery masterclass which is very good, but to be honest I prefer this book. I know the previous reviewer said it's not for beginners but I found the step by step instructions and photographs very easy to follow and the first few projects were not too difficult even for me, a novice wire weaver. I have to admit I did change the dimensions of the diamond pendant (I made it twice the size) as I like larger, more bold items and the Kokopelli earrings I embellished with beads. The projects do use a lot of wire but if you stick to copper or silver coloured, or any other colour you wish to use it works out a lot cheaper than using sterling silver. The only negative thing I can say about this book is that it is quite repetitive. I found I got bored easily when weaving and inevitably got distracted and made mistakes. The projects are beautiful but quite small, so if like me you wear big, bold jewellery, you many want to put your own stamp on this book. I really like this book and I would confidently recommend it to a beginner wire weaver, although you may need to have a little knowledge of wire work in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not for a beginner 23 Mar 2011
By Mrs. Gail Brewster VINE™ VOICE

Some really interesting projects but difinitely not for a beginner. I found that the items especially the rings use quite a lot of wire which makes them expensive to make. The diagrams are helpful and some of the projects are exquisite but not easy to make.

A good text book introducing wire techniques for beginners, intermediate and advanced students.
The photographs display the jewellery to best advantage and diagrams successfully illustrate the various stages.
The secctions on wire fundamentals, tools and techniques make essential reading, especially for beginners
