Product Description

Product Description

This is a new book by the noted weather forecaster and media personality that skilfully blends autobiography with reflections on extreme weather. It features personal encounters and interviews with many famous names from the worlds of sport, politics and television. They include: Tony Blair; Alistair Campbell; Denis Howell (Minister for Drought!); Tim Henman; Brian Johnston; Mike Gatting; Dickie Bird; Des Lynham; Julian Wilson (BBC racing correspondent); Dick Francis (thriller writer and former jockey); Anne Robinson (The Weakest Link); Noel Edmonds; Les Dawson; Gordon Kaye (actor in 'Allo 'Allo); Angela Rippon; Michael Fish; and, Ian McAskill. This title provides major coverage of John Kettley's associations with sporting events - the Cheltenham Festival, Aintree Grand National and FA Cup Finals (especially those involving his beloved Burnley FC). It offers dramatic accounts of key weather disasters and disruptions: Atrocious winter of 1963; Snow Stops Play in cricket match at Buxton - June 1975; February 2009 - and London grinds to a halt in heaviest snowfall for years...and many more; views on climate change, renewable energy and the way forward; and, outstanding photographs throughout.

This book is an interesting read for both the weather enthusiast & midly interested by-stander. John come across as a personable chappie who has moved out of the sphere of TV weatherman into the realms of general entertainment. There are some amusing anecdotes (and that song is well covered!) as well as the slightly more disturbing events leading up to John leaving the Met office. All in all a jolly good read!

Good gift 12 Jan 2010
I bought it as a present for my brother who went to school with the author. He relly liked it and I saved money by getting it from Amazon. It arrived extremely quickly even in the Christmas rush.
