You can't really call this music. Yet in places it is capable of touching you like the most beautiful of songs. For 'Weather Report' Chris Watson has recorded the sound of three very different environments. Ol-Olool-O is the sound of Kenya's Masai Mara and captures the sometimes hostile environment perfectly. The Lapaich is the often wet sound of a Scottish Highland Glen, all bird call and crackles and rainfall - like camping alone on a remote hill. And finally Vatnajokull is the sound of an Icelandic glacier - terrifying and gorgeous in equal measure, you get an understanding of the sheer size and force of such a natural environment.
Put together it works perfectly - you can choose to listen with lights off if in need of peace, or listen through headphones for total emersion and be amazed by nature.
Watson manages to tap into why sound is so interesting. Everything here is natural and some of the results are breathtaking. It opens up your mind to how life really does sound outside of our enclosed house, car and office based world. A treasure and a cd to behold. So if you are looking for an escape from the mundane growl of fast paced life and filthy traffic tune into this and switch off.
