HASH(0x9d82984c) out of 5 stars Weather Instruments: Facts for Kids is a very well written and illustrated book - great for kids and all ages! 13 May 2014
By Daisy S - Published on Amazon.com

Recently I bought this book and placed it on my Kindle App on my 7 inch tablet. This book is very educational for children, younger to older and yes even adults. What makes this book so special is that has the basic facts about each weather instrument and beautiful colored photographs.

About the pictures: Just double tap them to enlarge them and pull on the edges for a full sized picture. When done, press the X on the top of the picture to go back to the text of the book. Speaking of pictures in this book, these are in HD and of superb color, sharpness and quality! **Also, I read this book in my 7 inch tablet and it is very well formatted for this as the text very readable, and the pictures could be double tapped and stretched for a FULL SCREEN PICTURE!

Even though this book is primarily for children, an adult, I learned a few things myself by reading this book.

Highly recommend this book!
HASH(0x9e1de168) out of 5 stars Weather Instruments Fun Facts for Kids 2 May 2014

A fascinating, informative book, well illustrated. I, personally, learned a great deal that I didn't know before reading "Weather Instruments." Beside the tools for measuring rain, snow, temperature, humidity...and overall weather predictors, there is a section on fun facts about the weather. Did you know you can tell the temperature by the way a cricket chirps? Do you know what really makes the noise when you hear thunder? And more, you will also be given a list of supplies needed to make your own weather instruments.

While this book is stated to be aimed at beginning readers, it would be a good idea to have an adult read through the book at least the first time with our aspiring weather forecasters to help with some pronunciation and concepts.

Definitely recommended reading for kids all the way to junior high.
HASH(0x9e1de06c) out of 5 stars Book for kids about weather instruments 8 May 2014

I loved this book. It is interesting, informative and well illustrated.

The book discusses instruments to measure pressure, temperature, rainfall, snowfall, humidity, wind speed and direction and more. It also has interesting facts about some aspects of weather and its causes e.g. lightning, supercells, some fun information like the origins of sayings like "it's raining cats and dogs".

I liked the idea of making your own weather instruments which you can read about at the back of the book, along with the downloadable puzzle.

Great information teaching about weather and how to predict it.

Definitely recommend this book for kids all the way to junior high (and older).
HASH(0x9e1e2f54) out of 5 stars Learn about the barometer, thermometer, hygrometer and more.... 2 Jun. 2014
By Richard and Liz - Published on Amazon.com

The ancient Greeks are the ones who came up with the word 'meteorology' - study of the atmosphere. Leonardo daVinci invented the hygrometer to measure humidity, Galileo Galilei was the one who invented the thermometer and Evangelista Torricella invented the barometer. Learn more about the above instruments plus many more in their individualized, dedicated sections.

What can crickets tell us about the temperature? Find out here!

Want to make your own weather instruments? The author includes brief instructions on how.

This book, for older children, is well written and a great educational resource. There is also a FREE downloadable word search at the end of the book. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
HASH(0x9e1f703c) out of 5 stars Fun Fact Filled for All Ages 27 Oct. 2014
By Mike Shaw - Published on Amazon.com

While aimed at the younger set, and written very well at a middle school and younger reading level, I really enjoyed this book myself. I had always wondered about how humidity in the air was measured, and now I understand it perfectly. The mix of historical information related to weather measurement and modern technology is done very well.

The last section of the book is very motivational, and makes you want to go out and make some weather measuring instruments yourself. Definitely a great way to do some fun crafts type projects with your kids that will have some very practical educational value too.

I highly recommend this book.
