If you're looking for a budget home security system, this camera might be just what you need. The camera body is robust and well-made. The camera is in the middle of a double-circle of infrared LEDs, which glow red when it gets dark, so the camera still gets a black-and-white image. In dim light or under artificial light, the picture is more-or-less black and white - you only see much colour under bright lights or in sun. The picture is always clear, and perfectly appropriate for security applications.
The mounting is quite basic - the screws that hold it in place can come loose, so it's best to fit the camera in place, make sure you get the field of vision you want, and then tighten up the screws to make sure the camera stays steady. There are only two planes of adjustment when you're fitting the camera - up and down (nodding movement) and rotating the mount on its fixing screw (which would stop the picture being level), so you need to choose the mounting point carefully.
The connectors are: red - 12V DC 1 Amp power supply; white - mono audio; and yellow - composite video. The audio and video are both RCA phono plugs, but it's easy enough to fit a BNC adaptor if you need it. I bought some BNC connectors at the same time, but I think (I can't remember!) that one BNC adaptor was supplied with the camera. The camera works fine plugged into a TV, or into my hard-disk security recorder.
The power supply is a little flimsy - the first one I was sent didn't work, and the second fell apart, leaving exposed mains-voltage solder points (the seller, BV Electronics, was very helpful in supplying replacements). It's a UK mains plug with an integral transformer and rectifier bridge, and the lead isn't particularly long, which you may find incionvenient, depending on where you need to mount the camera. The power supply is definitely NOT weatherproof, and won't fit inside most weatherproof mains outlets.
I would consider buying a separate power supply for this camera, if the one supplied doesn't meet your needs. Even if you decide you need to do this, the camera is still great value at this price.
