This book is inspiring for the novice investor. It gives an overall strategy for building an investment portfolio from scratch. A portfolio using a mix of top FTSE100 companies and small growth companies is outlined to demonstrate how to choose and combine shares from different sectors to achieve a successful and low risk portfolio. The portfolio combines Warren Buffet's support of value companies, as reflected in the top FTSE100 companies and the author's particular preference for small growth companies. It is interesting to see how the author combines these two approaches to achieve a portfolio. The author encourages good financial habits such as saving and reducing debt, however it is her ability to inspire confidence in the reader to take a greater interest and more control of their own finances which will probably cause all readers of this book to become wealthier. I would recommend reading this book before reading The Armchair Investor, which concentrates in much greater detail on the author's Faster Gains method of investing. The two books are natural companions to each other and form an interesting account of one persons view of the Market, and how to profit from it.
